Lance wanted to leave, i didn't see anything worth fighting for him to stay here. I support Lance's wish

I question their priorities, decision making, and I think our scouting/talent evaluation is highly hit and miss. Our miss rate in the higher rounds is alarming actually.

It just shows you there are numerous ways to build a team esp. when given 7 years. Honestly, in reviewing the draft and FA threads, half of the WZ could have done better over the 7 years. That's how crazy personnel is.

Given that the Lance trade proved to be a mistake... does that mistake negate the quality of the rest of the roster that has been built?

So you saw the same thing that Shanny saw AFTER 4 games .. 4 games after and AFTER making him the INSTANT starter who didn't even beat out Grappy fair and square..

19 wanted to be traded... No? Did you support that ?

TRUE...

I can't even blame the scouts (if we do have them), because the decision maker is Shanny only after Lynch gives him a list of players for each position that he wants.

WAS it really a mistake? or was the 4 games enough ??

how can Shanny gives up on a guy he traded the farm for and only give him 4 games..

I know he can't be that GREAT as an evaluator because he did turn down Mahomes and took CJ...

then he turned down the Brady idea and that's AFTER he basically told he everyone he wanted Kirk over Grappy...

then turn down Stafford because the cost would have been too much but gave up the same amount on to draft a young Trey..

SOMEBODY EXPLAIN !!

Why ask fans to explain what we do not know for certain. We can only offer our opinions and conjecture based off of what we have heard and read from those that cover the team.

My opinion: The trade up was a mistake. It has been suggested they were still undecided when they traded up, but they wanted to secure the position to take their pick after completed evaluations. The pick, also was a mistake. Lance is one of the rawest prospects ever taken so high. He needed to go to a team that didn't have much on the line to let him play and learn: develop, in an era where coaching time is more limited than ever before.

Besides all that, Purdy emerged as the best option at the position. Would you sit him for Lance? That would be worse than simply acknowledging the mistake and moving on from it like they have. Cling to the mistake and get fired. That has happened many times in NFL history.
First round QBs fail all the time. Nearly every year there are 4 or 5 picked in the first round and maybe 2 actually have good careers.

On the other hand, the last man picked in the draft rarely has a good career. It's too early to know for sure since Brock has so few games but he's off to a good start.

Bottom line, they missed on the Lance pick like so many teams miss on those first rounders but they hit a HR with the last pick. If he has a great career it really doesn't matter where he was picked.
Ashamed is a strong word. They have done good things and bad things. Being fair and open about both would make this place better.

Fully agree!

Their track record in the 1st round is pretty poor... but, those 5ths and 7ths have been pretty incredible!
I see some saying ths was the worst trade in 49er history. Some even say in NFL history'

The Niners trade a 1st, two 2nds, a 3rd and a 4th for a shot O J Simpson. This was a worse trade for 2 reasons. ne everyone knew OJ was shot. His knees were gone. With Trey they were taking a chance and gambling on an unknown. If he had stayed healthy and become the palyer they expected then it wouldn't be considered a bad trade.

The other difference is the draft positions. When the Niners trade for OJ they were terrible and drafting early in the rounds. The picks they traded for Lance were late round picks. That makes a difference since even first round picks drop off after the first 12 or 15 players.
