I compared the win/loss records of the first quarter of Shanahan's 9ers season vs. the last three quarters. I found little statistical difference. I didn't include a weighted average that referenced the strength of the first four vs. the last 12 opponents. But I agree that the team has generally played more poorly in the first four games. It may have to do with the learning curve regarding the offense's complexity, dependence on timing, and lack of first-team practice time as a unit. Of course, it's better to play well late rather than early. But this is what the Boardroom website (Home-field advantage betting value) reported about home-field advantage in the playoffs: "From 2010 to 2020, there were 112 non-Super-Bowl matchups in the playoffs. The home team won 62.5% of the time, winning by an average of 4.2 points per game."
Go Niners.

This is nothing to do with the Niners game next week but I just watched Deion Sanders son throw for 510 yards on 37/46 with 4 TDs. They upset TCU. This kid can really throw. TCU's defense isn't good but his deep passes were right on the money. I think he's only a sophomore.

A team that went 1-11 last year opened up with a win over a ranked team that was in the CFP Championship last year, hell of an opening day performance. Their defense looks bad lol but at least their offense, which sells tickets, looked good.
travis Hunter was a five star recruit who went to An HCBU (Jackson state) and now transferred.

I was listening to a live that Krueg did and he had some dude named "Coach" in there, he must of been a Lance fan. Lol dude was so negative about this season. Thinks we will win like 8-9 games and that's a "success". Dudes smoking rocks. Lol
idk what he's a coach of but he's basing it on the raiders beating us (practice that he wasn't even there to watch) and our bad run defense in pre season.
i personally think that would be a failure of a season but we do have a hard schedule this year. He was just so negative. Lol I know we have a lot to work on but I think we will be one of the best teams.

Some people are stupid this team wins that amount of games if Purdy isn't the truth and the 2020 season happens all over again. This team is way too talented and well coached to only win 8-9 games, that'll be a massive failure of a season

For real! This is one of the best rosters, top to bottom, that I've ever seen in the entire league. If Purdy plays the same as last year, #6 is coming home. I guess I'll have to research other teams to see how they all shake out, but as far as All Pros, All Stars and generally high ranking players, I'm blown away by the level of talent. No way will we keep this many All Stars once Purdy's rookie deal is up, so definitely have to make the most of the opportunity.

Despite his apparent struggles, Pickett has done one thing very well so far: passed the ball under pressure.
"Kenny Pickett continues to thrive against the blitz: Pickett has a 71.7% completion rate against the blitz, which is the highest among all NFL quarterbacks. In Monday's win over the Colts, Pickett went 7 of 9 for 69 yards with a 98.6 passer rating, playing mistake free football when defenses send an extra rusher to challenge him.Pickett has a 106.9 rating against the blitz without an interception. Not bad for a rookie quarterback with a poor offensive line. The Steelers quarterback has had his struggles, but facing the blitz is not one of them."
I am a bit nervous about Wills and the fact that he likes tk blitz. I think Giu can get away with blitzing younger quarterbacks but you can also get burned by good veteran quarterbacks.
i also think that the league has show us that the sound coverage and a good 4man rush is best. That's the reason why the Fangio scheme has been so successful.

I feel I'm a bit less optimistic than most here, but I would say that 8 or 9 wins would be a disaster of a season, coupled with jettisoning Lance. I said 12-5 in the PYMWYM thread.

I'm surprised people think we're some juggernaut. Maybe I'm just a pessimist but we've got a guy who has started 5 games at QB, new defensive coordinator whose defense hasn't looked very good (I understand it's a lot of our backups playing but they're also playing against backups....all things being equal we've looked like s**t, esp run defense), some depth/,injury concerns, coaching turnover, and so on.
Nothing would surprise me to be honest, and that includes a Superbowl winning season OR a mediocre season.

You also have to factor in how weak the NFC looks on paper.
With 3 wildcard spots even a down year should result in playoffs.

Same. If there's one thing we've learned, this team wins and loses in epic fashion together. You just never know but it certainly won't be boring.
I hope this is the year and one could certainly make a great case either way.
