Not running scared but this is a hell of an open to start the season. Maybe a nice warmup at AZ would have been better? Or maybe get them out of the way early. It would be most helpful to have Nick and Kittle out there.
Tied with Brock for interest will be our DC. I don't know why I'm not feeling as strong with him as I should. If we win the first two I'll be feeling better about our DC.
Agree, and I feel the same with Wilks. Wilks will have to get used to the wierd Wide 9 alignment and the lack of ability to stop the run from that formation. I hate the Wide 9 against the run. You almost have to run blitz to stop the runs from that formation - and to a certain extent that's more an overcomittment vs a balanced defense.
Having said that, Wilks will get better over time - and get his ajustments and line calls better as he gets more experience in the Wide 9. There are some good assistant defensive coaches that are very experienced in the Wide 9 on staff, and they should be a great resource for Wilks as he cuts his teeth on the Wide 9 formation. It will be tough to see him go after 2 years (like possibly Anthony Lynn this next year) but hopefully that will net us more compensatory picks, and more gems like Purdy in the late rounds.
