Depending on the package, the Steelers could have half a dozen starters on the field for the Sept. 10 season opener against San Francisco who weren't around in January when the 2022 season concluded against Cleveland.

Cornerback Cameron Sutton, inside linebacker Robert Spillane and strong safety Terrell Edmunds left in free agency. Inside linebacker Myles Jack, slot corner Arthur Maulet and rotational nose tackle Tyson Alualu are gone, too. So is Devin Bush, who lost his job at inside linebacker to rookie Mark Robinson late in the season.

In free agency, the Steelers brought in inside linebackers Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb, nose tackle Breiden Fehoko, cornerback Patrick Peterson, safety Keanu Neal and slot corner Chandon Sullivan. The draft produced second-rounders Joey Porter Jr. at corner and Keeanu Benton on the defensive line.

It's easier to count the returning starters on Austin's unit: defensive linemen Cameron Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi, outside linebackers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith and free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Cornerback Levi Wallace, nose tackle Montravius Adams and strong safety Damontae Kazee also could return to starting roles they served for portions of the 2022 season.

The article starts out by saying there's a lot of new faces, but then at the end says 8 of 11 starters are returning.

No I'm seeing Pitt winning this game all over the place? Why??

Sane reason you are seeing so many folks pick SEA to win the division .

I think we win the division, but I'm on the fence whether we win this game, considering our lackluster starts and the turmoil we're going thru as a team.

Turmoil? Bosa holding out is not "turmoil".

I'd say them just trading away Lance coupled with Bosa probably missing week 1 due to a holdout could fall under turmoil.

Nah. If anything they are incredibly stable, and trading Lance only helped solidify that. And it's hard for someone who hasn't been in the office since February to cause turmoil in September.

Ok

Haha. Turmoil is fair. It's been rough. But not backbreaking in the end because of the rest of the strengths of the roster still.

No not at all. But now that they are in an area where arguably their best player has a good chance of missing games due to a holdout and it could feasibly impact their ability to retain talent going forward, it's certainly not ideal. Let's hope it works itself out for both sides

It'll probably end up OK in the end. But right now certainty sucks. Hargrave, Ferrell, AA and Jackson are just going to have to step up big.

I think a healthy AA and Hargrave is one of the best pass rushing DT tandems in the league. AA was fighting a foot injury last season so while he was on the field, he wasn't at his best. If Wilks can get creative and confuse Pickett a bit, I think the 49ers pass defense will be okay. It's getting into those pass rushing situations that will be the challenge.

There could be 3 or 5 new starters. I don't know who the starters will be. Also, depending on base or nickel. What will be new are the two ILBs.

Article just written kind of weird lol. But anyways, I agree that we have to stop the run. That has always been our best way to control the game. Stop the run so our star pass rushers can shine. If Bosa doesn't play, that's gonna be AA and Hargrave. Jury still out on Ferrell and Jackson. I trust Hyder a little more at the moment.
LETS GO NINERS!

Props to Patrick Peterson for still being relevant. I thought he'd go downhill after being busted for PEDs. Although once he got caught, no more Pro Bowl appearances. I hope he gets to say hello to Deebo's shoulder at some point in the game.

That's important. They too could start out slow as they get acclimated to playing with each other in a live game. Keep bringing it thl!

I think the duo of Hargrave and AA alone would be causing OLs a lot of trouble

No doubt!

My reasoning is we looked like trash stopping the run in preseason. We have no bosa and Pittsburgh's pass rush is ridiculous and our OL is a ? IMO. As is our CB' not named Ward.

I like the over. I do think we'll score points. I just think their defense will make more plays than ours up front.

We looked like trash versus the run without Armstead, Hargrave, Warner and Dre playing
Good News! CBS Sportsline guru Pete Pricso is picking the 49ers to lose on Sunday. Pricso is usually dead wrong on picking against the 49ers. I hope this trend continues!

Tomlin made a comment about how he coaches to stop Kyle, not Brock. I just learned that Tomlin calls the defensive plays. When Kyle was OC with the Browns, that offense, with Hoyer at QB, scored 27 and 31 points versus PIT. I have no context to those scores, just that the Browns were able to get some points on the board.

Awesome coaching matchup, Canada vs Wilks also
