49ers at Steelers Pregame Thread - 2023 Season Week 1

I'm not feeling to good about this game. I fee like our secondary is going to get scorched. Us not stopping the run in preseason also is concerning.

Reasons for concern: Place kicker, Bosa holdout, untested O line

Reasons for optimism: Brock Purdy. CMC, Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, Warner, Hargrave, Kyle mutha f**kin Shanahan

They got this returner Calvin Austin #19 whose fast as hell and with our sorry ass ST he can be a problem

Their D and O are going to be problems too, lol. Throw in a great coaching staff and it could get ugly for us.

Not stopping the run is concerning, but our defense is stacked on every level. The first team is just so good, and presuming Bosa is back in the fold, we look to be even better up front. It's like folks have magically forgotten that how good our D is.

With Purdy, our offense averaged over 30 ppg. I see no reason that won't continue. I'm still a bit concerned about how Purdy responds in year 2 post injury, but judging by his last two preseason games, he's looking like the guy that lit the league up last year.

Pittsburgh is going to really have to dominate the LOS to stand a chance. Trent, Nick, Arik, Javon? I'm not betting against those dudes.

Same, we may have to play the Steelers but they have to play us. Our o line, outside of mckivitz is tested and did well last year. They're not bad at all.

our offensive weapons are insane.

our d line is awesome. Linebackers are awesome. Safeties are awesome. Corners are solid (depth is an issue and nickel).

im just concerned about special teams - I think our offense will score 30+. Kittle, CMC, Aiyuk, Deebo, Juwuan, Trent, Mitchell, Purdy - that's freakin lethal and this is the 2008 Steelers D
If I were to bet on this game, which I'm not, I'd say it would be a pick'em. Steelers looks like an ascending team, we look like a drama-filled SB competitor who doesn't do great week 1.

Should we win, yes. But there are many reasons why it should be close.

It'll probably be a pretty close game, but I think people are putting way too weight into us struggling the last two seasons which was primarily the result of QB instability and it's effect on our offense overall.

It may seem absurd to say this to this fanbase on this day, but we don't have instability at the position going into the season and the drama you are referring to is mostly outside the building among the fans.

This team reminds me of the Rams team a few years ago. Very good players at the top, but the depth isn't there. They won it all because their core: Stafford, Kupp, Donald, Ramsey, Whitworth all stayed healthy. Hopefully that's us.

Yeah, our QB1 hasn't been up for debate really all off season but specifically since training camp started. All the reps went to the right people. No dysfunction or chemistry issues.

i think our depth is really solid in most positions, it's mainly the o line depth that is sketchy. But I think our depth looks worse then it's mixed in with 3rd and 4th stringers all over the field.
If Womack hAs to fill in on first string, he will look much better surrounded by the 1s than he has. Same goes for the d line/linebackers.

Agreed. We're top heavy coming in seemingly.
Since Brock has never lost a game and never will, by the powers of deduction niners win.
Tough game. Steelers are very well coached, road game and tough place to play.

steelers D is legit and they have some good weapons on offense that can pose us problems.

However I think if we come in ready to play and not play sloppy week 1 football we should be able to win but having kicking concerns in a game like this is a legit concern. Hopefully Moody's leg heals quick and his preseason issues are going to be a fun fact in a great clutch career for us.

Kicking and Bosa's status are my biggest concerns.

I'm interested to see if Kyle is going to be a bit more aggressive on 4th downs this year, especially with a QB he seems to trust more than any other he's had here. A silver lining to questionable kicking could be forcing his hand in 4th and short situations on the other side of the field.

Rams won the SB with Jalen Ramsay and 5 dudes who had no business starting in the nfl in their secondary and lb core. 9ers backups may have weakened but the Rams had multiple garbage starters. Had to bring Eric Weddle in for the playoffs it was so bad.
Their QB looks like he will make a huge sophomore jump in improvement . Surrounded by talent as well
