What is your opinion of the trade of Trey Lance?

My honest opinion is I really wanted Trey to work out. Once Brock came in and did what he did, Trey's path here as QB1 ended and there wasn't much he could do. And I'm not sure what else the 49ers could do as well at that point.

Maybe not bring in Sam Darnold? Just let Trey be #2 and let him finish out his contract? Would that do him any good? That is probably what I would have done if I were in charge but I don't think that would benefit Trey either.

However and this is kinda obvious IMO if you look back, at some point between last year and now Kyle lost faith in Trey. He knew Trey was going to take longer to develop then what he had hoped or Trey just didn't fit here.

I don't know if it's just me but when Trey played it just looked and felt awkward. I just don't think he felt comfortable in this offense. Kyle wants someone who pulls the trigger immediately, gets the ball out quickly and takes the occasional shot downfield.

So it's probably best he and the team just moves on. 49ers swung hard and missed but it turns out, that's only strike 2 and Brock is up!!!

We are talking about QB3. Allen still might be one of the best QB3 in the league.

Huge difference between Brock and Trey. Brock looks so smooth and in command. Trey looks very robotic and awkward, and very uncomfortable.

Wtf are you talking about? Allen is garbage. He looked horrible, non functional. Best qb3? He should be handing out water bottles instead of footballs.

If Brock gets hurt... we might be f**ked. All this talent on the team, for nothing.

With Trey at least he won an important playoff like game for us, and apparently has gotten much better since then. So I would have felt much better with him on the team if Sam also didn't play well.

A 4th and a few million don't mean s**t, compared to a lost season during our Super Bowl window.

Playoff win?

Edit, playoff like. Got it.

I don't think Kyle thought he was a much better option than Allen.

Well Kyle is only smart when I agree with his decisions
If we can get Bosa & Gould, ok then..do what ya gotta do. Just no injuries for Brock cuz..ya know, the trophy and all lol

Trey wanted out. He knew he can't compete with Purdy. I'm sure he saw the team gravitated towards Purdy.
I'm upset we lost all those draft picks , but looking at our roster even if we hit on those drafts we wouldn't be able to keep all our talent.
But the dumbest statement I hear is someone needs to pay for mishandling Trey Lance😂..,It's more like someone needs to get paid for finding Purdy!

I think you're overestimating the quality of the 3rd string QBs in this league. Allen was the QB2 in Cincinnati the last few years. Think about that - the Bengals spent the entire last few seasons as a Super Bowl capable roster one hit away from Allen being their starter. And their new QB2 isn't exactly likely to be much better. There's even an article from right before the Lance trade that has them hoping to get Allen back.

Could 49ers QB mess reunite the Bengals and Brandon Allen? (msn.com)

It's sad to say, but I don't think anyone was counting on Trey Lance this year at the 3rd string position.

Essentially they did pay for mishandling Trey. They paid 3x 1st round draft picks and pretty much got nothing in return.

I love the excitement of the draft especially owning those 1st… But I could careless where you find me the best 49ers!
Glad he's gone and with it the daily drama.

Wish him well and wishing us a lot better.

Mishandling?

Maybe, just maybe it's partially Trey's fault for not developing into an NFL QB.

Kid was basically handed the starting job on an NFL SuperBowl contender last year with no competition and couldn't make it last longer than a game and a half.
