I'm upset we lost all those draft picks , but looking at our roster even if we hit on those drafts we wouldn't be able to keep all our talent.
But the dumbest statement I hear is someone needs to pay for mishandling Trey Lance😂..,It's more like someone needs to get paid for finding Purdy!
Essentially they did pay for mishandling Trey. They paid 3x 1st round draft picks and pretty much got nothing in return.
Mishandling?
Maybe, just maybe it's partially Trey's fault for not developing into an NFL QB.
Kid was basically handed the starting job on an NFL SuperBowl contender last year with no competition and couldn't make it last longer than a game and a half.
Here's another consideration...Shanahan has never really developed a home grown QB. JG learned under Brady and McDaniels and was acquired via trade. Matt Ryan was an established QB before elevating his impact under Shanahan. Same with Matt Schaub. 1 good year with RGIII and then that crashed and burned (Cousins didn't really start until Gruden took over).
Lance was supposed to change that. Now it's Purdy. And I guarantee you, we'll be drafting a mid-round QB in '24.

Brock is a home grown QB whom Kyle has developed extraordinary well thus far.

Kyle hasn't developed Brock because he already had 4 years of starts in college. All Kyle really did was teach him his system.
Trey was the one that needed developing and they failed on that.

I have never heard of any rookie QB who doesn't need to be developed to succeed in the NFL. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I have a lot of thoughts on this...
Yes, Kyle and John f**ked up and traded away far too much for him... there is simply no way of getting around that fact, but this kid was being hyped up as the second coming and they simply fell for the hype... though by all accounts it was Lynch that was sold on him, not so much Kyle. Lets not forget though, John Lynch is ultimately Kyles boss.
I also think that Trey Lance was put in an unfair situation. He was not in any way ready to be the third overall pick in the draft. Hindsight is twenty twenty and I think hindsight shows that Trey Lance was at BEST, a late day three pick. Not fair on him that he was drafted so high.
THAT SAID... Trey Lance did himself no favors. The strip club pictures didn't set him off to a good start with Kyle either. He simply didn't study hard enough. His release is slow and he doesn't see the field well. Those are however things he could have worked on and improved, yet he didn't.
At the end of the day, he was given every chance to succeed and through bad luck and injury is ultimately a bust. I mean at the end of the day, he couldn't even beat out Sam Darnold who let's be frank, is not a very good QB in this league.
I do not see him being long for the league. He will sit down the Dallas depth chart for a year and I reckon he's out of the leage in 2 years at best.

It's up to the player now to develop.

He made $28m in two years correct? Cry me a river poor Trey.
Love the kid but put it in perspective. He has more money for life than most. He will live. And Dallas owes him $6m to add on to that total.

Kyle is not a QB developer. That's Griese's job.

Hard to develop if the player is often injured. Broken finger on throwing hand then broken ankle on the foot used to drive the ball. Unlucky.

Should have kept him In hope he would someday reach his full potential with us. Still so young and raw too.

Lol he was the 3rd overall pick. You don't trade away all the resources we gave up for a project player. He had ZERO BUSINESS being on this team

The QB3 on the 49ers is not the scout team QB. Lance won't get better throwing versus air to the equipment guy.
For this 2023 season, I'd rather have Trey as QB3 rather than BAllen as QB3 + a 4th rounder. But Lance wanted off the team.

Would rather of waited it out a year. Until we know Purdy is our guy this is a huge risk. It really seems like Shanny didn't want a battle between them. So he brought in Darnold then shipped Lance out.

So, what's worse? Using 3 first round picks on a project? Or giving up on him so soon after drafting him?

He shouldn't have been the pick period. He didn't belong here, Could've used those picks on player that could've won us the nfc championships instead of Trey sitting on the bench for nothing.
he'd probably still be on the team if he was a 4th or 5th round pick like he should've always been.
