All this restructuring is just delaying the inevitable- cap hell
Absolutely. You can't restructure forever. Sooner or later the players get paid. Check the salaries for next season and you'll see 6 players scheduled to make over $20 million. I haven't seen Bosa's new contract details but if his salary is about $25 million next year then they have about $157 million tied up with 6 players. I know they're going to restructure but that's stili. a lot of work to fit them under the cap. We may see a couple of players traded or released.
I think the team is smart enough now to avoid the so-called "Salary Cap Hell" scenario. I think the last line from CatchMaster is key. I would also like to add: "leave in free agency." We have already witnessed this with Glinch. In a perfect scenario, Glinch would have signed with the 49ers. But you cannot keep everyone. Glinch was good, but he wasn't great. He had his issues with pass-blocking. 49er money is reserved for greats. Not the very good players.
The next big name to leave in free agency may be Aiyuk. Time will tell. Aiyuk has been very good. But has he been great? The team may also have to let Kittle walk at some point. These are just guesses on my part. I have no "insider information." But, I do know that the salary cap does not allow the 49ers to keep everyone. Some players are going to find opportunity and money elsewhere.
I rue the day that the NFL came up with the "49er Rule" in response to Eddie DeBartolo's lavish treatment of players. But it has kept the league somewhat competitive.
This is just me, but I don't see an issue in 2024, or beyond, the core(Purdy, CMC, Juice, Deebo, BA, Kittle, Trent, Bosa, Armstead, Hargrave, Fred, Dre, Mooney, & Hufanga) will be around for a while, I don't see any mass-exodus of players via releases or trades, now FAs leaving, yes, Mitchell, Lenoir, Jauan after 2024 when they're all UFAs I see leaving.
2024 wise, extending Dre, AA, & Ward saves $27.668M, redoing Deebo saves over $15.8M, so we'll be just fine in 2024.
