The NIners have about $45 million in cap space which is the most in the NFL to start the season. They did this by restructuring a lot of contracts. This puts even more pressure on them to win the SB in the next couple of years because eventually they have to pay these guys.
The Niners did this in 1994 and were able to win a SB but Carmen Policy said that the team ended up in cap hell. So it's win soon before players need to get paid or strt leaving. Williams isn't likely to play much longer. Kittle may also be done in a couple years because of his injuries.
The players have already been paid, it's just cap manipulation
The players haven't been paid yet. The keep pushing those salaries back. Eventually they will get paid and that's when they can run into cap issues. Paraag seems pretty good at moving salaries around but it can't go on forever.
Yup, I was thinking of the dead cap has already been paid
the way they can run into issues if the restructure goes past his contract/time here?
This is all true. I literally had this conversation with a friend but he said something that made me say oh....
Me: you can't keep kicking the can down the road
friend: why not? the road never ends, especially if you manage it correctly.
He's right. It's not like the nfl goes bankrupt tomorrow lol
Of course there will be dead money over the years, but if you manage that properly year after year you should avoid cap hell. So far we draft well enough and have showed proper free agent discipline that imo this seems possible for them.
