What is the biggest weakness?

This. Stafford is an elite QB and he's healthy again. Rams will be one of those teams that give everyone fits as long as they can keep him on the field.

Agree on both.

WAS this not a given already?

Too early to call. We are feeling teams out as well as ourselves. I'll judge after the Dallas game. We'd have 5 games under our belt and would have played an elite team (Dallas) and 2nd tier (Rams) as well as the Steelers, who I think will end up being a good team. Its enough data points to really assess where we are.

IMO we will go as far as the pass protection, and Purdy can take us once we face the playoff defenses.

I think the pass blocking was a huge improvement over the BlitzBurg game. 9-0 and one of Brock's worst games and he still scored 30 points. I'd like to see improvement on both the right side run blocking of the OLine and the coverage on the corner opposit of Ward. All in all, this was a good effort by a good team, and I'll point it out. -- **NO SEVERE INJURIES ON THAT AstroTurf field! Thank god!!!
where's the option for the deep ball?

I'm really looking down the road to the playoffs. Barring any serious injuries, the Niners are in the playoffs. As much as I hate to admit it, Dallas scares me the most. It may be partially due to the fact that there is NO team I would hate losing to more, but I think the Eagles have slipped a lot. So when playing the Cowboys, are you more afraid of Dak and their receivers roasting our secondary? Or are you more concerned that Parsons and company wreck our O line and QB? I'm more afraid of their defense.
This is a tough one. I'd say "unit pass protection" vs. "talent at the CB positions/depth."

And I still would call that a push. LOL

Fair.
If I'm only judging off of two games, I'm going defensive play call inconsistency and maybe a boneheaded penalty here and there.

Overall, week one I felt like that halftime drive from PIT was not just on Lenoir, but also Wilks for calling way too soft of coverage. 10 yard cushion is way too much. 5-7 yards max please. We did 8-10 yard cushions all first half and the results were predictable. If you're playing prevent-style, of course they're going to just walk down the field.

It sure looked like a prevent defense. To me, unless the defense looks like that EVERY series, it's not a problem. But let's not forget the defense hadn't even given up a FIRST DOWN until that drive. 2nd half, defense continued rolling, but Watt wrecked McKivitz and if Pittsburg recovered either, or BOTH fumbles he forced, completely different game.

Agreed. Steve Wilks and this new scheme may be our biggest liability as of week 2. But I expect that to change later in the season.

If the problem is coaching/scheme, that is a helluva lot easier to correct than personnel, no?

It is in my opinion. There's certainly some areas of the team that could be upgraded, OT, #4 DE, and outside corner, but I think most of our issue vs the Rams were coaching not personnel.

Depends on the coach. Harbaugh and Roman never would change no matter the results. You could swap in the best corners in the league into the soft zone and the results would be the same. In some ways it's worse it's a coaching problem.

If wilks thinks he's right and won't take feedback the results will be consistent all year.
