I'm not commenting on the fact that most of the markets chose New England vs. Dallas -- they probably have two of the top 5-6 fanbases on the league. I understand it, it makes sense.
That said, CBS only has a single game on Sunday. One of those games they can broadcast is Miami vs. Buffalo -- a genuinely interesting game. I also think Baltimore vs. Cleveland is interesting. On the other hand, CBS also has one of the most putrid games you could imagine, Denver vs. Chicago. Here's the map for CBS. Yellow is Denver vs. Chicago, red is Buffalo vs Miami. Green is Raiders vs Chargers (why is this being show in any market outside of the west)? I live in Utah and it boggles my mind that the affiliates here continue to be under the impression that Denver, no matter how horrible, is a game they must show every week. While Denver does in fact have more fans than other NFL teams in Utah, it is a really LOW plurality. The 49ers are a strong #2, the Raiders probably #3 and then probably a number of fans of the Cowboys/Steelers/Pats/Packers. Utah is a market that should always show the best game if Denver is crappy and not playing a good opponent. Yet they do this crap each and every single year, "hey Utah is also in the Rockies, let's show the PoS Broncos!" I believe the same can be said for Idaho, Montana and probably New Mexico. Salt Lake is over 500 miles away from Denver, Phoenix is only 100 miles further, Vegas is much closer and the bay area is 200 more miles away than Denver.
