something tells me this wouldn't fly with EddieD. He fired a SB winning head coach for not bringing more titles to SF. I guess times haves changed…

when did he do that?

George Seifert. And no point going into the semantics. We know he "quit", but everyone knew it was Eddie pushing him out bc he couldn't overcome the Green Bay Packers. He was coaching the Panthers the following year.

EddieD wanted nothing short of perfection. And like him, the fans demanded it. I'm sure the fans of today would have been quite content with Seifert losing perennially to the Cowboys and Packers in the NFCC games because you know….it's "successful" season

This is such an over simplification of the complexities of life and history. Demand excellence and perfection or else lol. Like it magically just shows up by continuously axing people, especially successful people…

Let me remind you that there are many ways to the top, let me also remind you that he burned out walsh and was pushing out seifert. There's no gaurantee that he would have kept winning and not turned into the Jerry Jones of the NFL. We'll never know because his actions and choices led to him losing the franchise.

let's try to be more productive than whining about being in second place. Maybe give Shanny the time to develop into the Holgram / Belicheck / Walsh type coach he's going to become whether it's here or there.

I will not let someone like you tell me that I'm insufficient because I'm ok the results we have had. Im ok with it because I see growth year over year and when we breach that ceiling I believe we will be in a place to return and return and return.

let me just say back to you, stop being so short sighted and tangential. Nobody likes to hear from chicken little everyday

I can see them going 20 years together.
It is a little premature to do this right now. What was the rush? Why not wait until after the season ends?

It's difficult to get such an extension when you bomb a QB selection where you used three years' worth of first round picks. However, they've drafted three potential HoFers in Warner, Bosa and Kittle and have (I assume) been the best in the league in drafting in the later rounds. They got exceptionally lucky with BCB. They're a marginal playoff team, at best, the moment Jimmy went down last year without Purdy. With Purdy they were Super Bowl contenders last year, and now, presumably, one of 2 or 3 frontrunners this year. If they had entered this year with Lance or Darnold as the starter and started out 1-2 after either failing to make the playoffs last year or getting blown out in the first round, do they still get the extension? I'm not asking this rhetorically, I don't know. Had they failed to make the playoffs last year, that would have been three out of six years out of the postseason and without BCB, they would have possibly still been a mess at QB. I think they would have continued on with these guys, but I'm not sure about a six year extension.

QBs save and ruin coaches. Guys like Zach Wilson are absolute coach killers -- the direct opposites are BCB and Russel Wilson when he was on his rookie contract. The Jets probably had the best draft of any team in a decade last year when they picked up Sauce Gardner, Garret Wilson and Breece Hall. Salah has put together a good defense and I think their culture is good. The Jets needed a QB and the Jets didn't reach for Zach Wilson. Had they not drafted him, the 49ers would have and we all would have been pissed at his laziness and crappy play like the Jets fans currently are. I've speculated that Lynch and Shanahan moved up to #3 in the hopes that the Jets would pass on Wilson and instead select Justin Fields or even Trey Lance. It seemed like an odd move to me at the time because Wilson evolved into the undisputed #2 and I felt like the other QBs were a reach at #3. It kills me that the #12 pick was eventually used on Micah Parsons by the Cowboys.

I wouldn't say 'exceptionally lucky'. 49ers had 3 QB's on contract at the time of the pick (Trey - $5.3M, Jimmy G - slated for trade, ended up on pay-as-you-play - $11M, Nate Sudfeld was guaranteed $2M, ended up paying him $1M after trade). Plus I think I'm right in saying that Shanahan had never taken more than two QB's before, so we were pretty overloaded at the position.
It was an imaginative pick.

We wouldn't have Hargrave if we had to pay another 3 first round busts too.

It's pure speculation at best unless I'm missing something.

I'm also not sure how fans delineate credit between members of the staff beneath Kyle/John.

Oh I do… they apply credit to those who help their current narratives. We have no idea how 9ers select 1st rounders or 5 rounders, but Lynch is bad so it must be Adam picking the good ones and Lynch picking that bad ones.

Even though there were reports that Peters loved Trey Lance and got the band of Wagons rolling.

Eh, we've gotten some reports about the draft that show their process. Kyle and John have said they go more hands off starting in the 5th round and allow members of the coaching and scouting staff to have more say in selections. We also had that report where Peter King was embedded with them during their first draft and he reported how Kyle slammed his fist on the table and demanded they draft Joe Williams no matter what and he didn't care that the scouts and personnel guys had removed him from their draft board.

Exactly. You just have to listen to them. It's still a symbiotic process overall but after 7 years, it's pretty safe to say we have a really good idea how they operate on acquiring personnel from the draft, trade and FA.

As to Peters, he's going to want to be a real GM at some point. That's inevitable. But that can be worked out here too esp. with a "promotion" for Lynch.
Great extension. We've been in contention since 2019. They've grown the fan base. They've built the best roster in football with the most innovative offense. I haven't been this excited in watching the 49ers since the dynasty years.

He's a Mr. Irrelevant playing the best of the entire QB class. That's insanely lucky. But like they say, it's sometimes better to be lucky than good.

Kyle demanded Joe Williams in the fourth because Lynch made Kyle give up Alvin Kamara to the Saints in the 3rd.

They drafted Weatherspoon. Kamara went one pick later. Cooper kupp went 3 picks later.

so many debacles

If Lynch were interested in being team president so they could give Peters the GM title it would of happened already. It's possible things change if the 49ers win a Superbowl but outside of that i think Peters is gone soon.

Personally I love the duo and the team they assembled. It's good to know the owners has our coaches back and the players know that if you are good they will play you. I never thought once that they were on notice after the Tre Lance experience. I applaud the fact that they didn't force to baby sit his career over the team's potential. GO NINERS
