IMO, it's what that play put into action - the start of a dynasty. It's similar to the "tuck" rule - Brady probably would of won chips still but that was the beginning of the Brady legacy and gave him the start he needed.

im not saying the catch should be diminished or anything like that - I'm just saying it'll be tough to top it, will need a big time play that we find out years later was the start to something bigger.
Trey Lance at his locker when asked for some niner intel...

Yup, that's legendary history!

I was sitting in section 14, row 19, seat 5 for The Catch. It indeed changed the trajectory of the franchise. There was another game earlier that year that was almost as important. The Niners beat the Cowboys 45-14 in game 6 that year. At the time the team was 3-2 with losses to Detroit and Atlanta. When the 49ers blew them out at home we all started thinking that maybe this team was different. I think the team did as well because they went on an 7 game winning streak. Clark had a huge play in that game as well. He had a 78 yard TD that just lit up the crowd. I remember that sight of him running down the field almost as much as I remember the Catch. Lott had a 40 yard pick 6 that epitomized the defense that year..

For me the Catch is the greatest memory. But that day thumping of the Cowboys was the Game.

Plot twist: the 49ers coaching staff was telling Lance all BS with the playbook this off season, which contributed to him struggling in camp, so they can trade Trey to their conference rival and he feed them bad intel.

First of all, super cool that you and baby Brady were there! Funny how small the world is.

but yeah, I believe the players have done interviews how they smashed "americas team" and the media didn't even really talk about it. It upset the team and the players because they felt disrespected - they knew after they smashed the cowboys that year that they were good enough to compete for the chip.

I'm not sure if it was after that game or the playoff game when Tom Landry said " it has to be Montana because there's nothing else there".

Funny. For what it's worth, the whole "intel" thing, many players have changed teams mid-season, and there is no real proof over the years that it actually helps. It could go both ways, which makes it not worth the effort.

For a single play I agree. Miracle on ice is bigger overall.
