Fire Steve Wilks now!

I'm not saying they should fire Wilks unless they have someone that can take over. You can't bring in anew guy in mid season and expect things to run smoothly. Kyle should talk to Wilks about moving to the sidelines and see how it works. If he refuses then maybe Kyle should dump him. It sure looks like the Browns showed the league how to attack the Niners D. Short passes to negate the pass rush and hit the open spots in the zone. If they switch to man then attack deep since they can't cover.

Dude is getting worse….
Loss to Browns - 19 points
Loss to Minny - 22 points
Loss to Cincy - 31 points
Not a good trend.
And thats with a healthy defense.

Wilks goes or the season is a waste.
Once again. Who do you replace him with at this point of the season who would be demonstrably better? Identify an assistant coach who is on the team now who could step and be expected to do a better job. Kocurek might be a possibility, but it seems like he doesn't really want the job. Or fill in the name of an experienced coordinator who is currently available and could be expected to come in at this point of the season and familiarize himself with our defense and its players fast enough to make a difference. The defense has been a problem this year, even when the team started out 5-0. The run defense has been especially bad, and they have absolutely sucked at getting off the field on 3rd and longs. There is no question that Wilks needs to step up but, as a practical matter, I don't see how you replace him so far into the season unless you are just throwing in the towel, in which case the season is a waste anyway, right?

That's essentially what the Rams did. Nacua was killing us until Stafford threw those two picks, or the 99yd TD drive Arizona had.
It's been a problem all season, but the offensive output was covering it up in those first 5 games.
Now that the offense isn't pouring on points like they were, the defensive issues are coming to the forefront, and it's dragging everything down.

Saleh and Ryans gave off an energy the players could see and feel. Wilks isn't cerebral enough to do it all from the booth, like say a Vic Fangio could. The defense seems to have lost its personality from years past. I thought maybe the players could feed off of Warner's energy, but I think it's better if it comes from the DC.

Maybe, but this current mess is not going to cut it. I find it hard to beleive that anybody could be worse.

We're so accustomed to being a top defensive team that this year feels different. Offenses are toasting us out there. Hard to see on tv but I was at this game and receivers were wide open. Mooney Ward out there holding all game and demo getting toasted. So embarrassing to play like this at home, especially in front of our Niner legends. I don't know what firing him will do now, unless we have someone inside the building to replace him. He's the common denominator. I can't remember the last time we were consistently unprepared and unable to tackle. This has been going on for more than 3 games and it's concerning.

If there's someone in the organization that could take over then fine. They could basically run the same system with some tweaks. Finding someone outside the system would be tough in the middle of the season. He would need to run the same type of D. If they change in the off season then they would have more choices.

If you bring in a new guy, you do it now, during a bye. If it's not now, it's not until the off-season unfortunately. And I don't think Kyle makes the move now. It's so risky to bring in someone new midseason. Because at the end of the day, Wilkes could turn it around, but he's going to have to completely adjust his philosophy in order to do so.
When things aren't working, intelligent people see it as an opportunity to adjust their systems, whereas stubborn people try to brute force their existing system. I hope Kyle is clear with Wilkes, that his system needs to be changed. Does Wilkes have that capability to reinvent and adapt? I sure as s**t hope so, or this season is wasted.

Unfortunately Wilks did not do this and now we have this giant dumpster fire. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Wilks is trying to run his system with personnel not designed to run that system. he's a f**king idiot.

pretty much sums it up
so that means something has to happen this week in order for them to install new changes asap

The only one I can think of that would represent an upgrade, can work with the scheme and is experienced enough to step in and be effective mid-season is Mike Zimmer and I have no idea if he'd even want the job.
But if they did consider replacing Wilks, that'd be the first guy I would call.

Rex Ryan is a career 3-4 guy. He's never called a defense like this. He's also been out of football for years and is known for running an overly complex scheme, the opposite of Saleh and Ryans. Might as well bring up Wade Phillips too.
