Our 2022/23 Draft Classes: Worried Yet?

Man... After really looking at our team now, I came away baffled at how we could be sitting here with so many glaring holes on this supposed Super Bowl roster.

Our 2022 class has zero contributors outside of Purdy and Burford, and the latter is among the worst starting guards in the NFL right now

Going over our personnel was beyond enormously frustrating. Beyond last year's picks, NONE of the picks we made this year have made any significant positive impact either. ZERO.

1) FS Jayir Brown - backup

2) K Jake Moody - did contribute to the win against LA, but has played a role in each of the past three losses. Significant role in the first two of those.

3) TE Cameron Latu - Injured, out for the season. And according to Lynch he didn't even make the team. Essentially lucked out getting injured so he could attempt to earn a spot next year.

4) CB Darrell Luter - Injured. Likely out of the season.

5) DE Robert Beal - injured. Likely out for the season.

6) LB Dee Winters - Backup who has seen little to no playing time.

7) TE Brayden Willis - fourth string TE inactive all year.

8) WR Ronnie Bell - Next to zero time on the field outside of the game against the Giants where he had a couple good plays. Nonexistent otherwise.

9) LB Jalen Graham - inactive all year.

Does anyone else feel like with 9 picks, we should've done more to move around to get more impactful players? We seemed so confident in our incumbents, that we decided to prepare for 2024-25 instead of making sure we were shored up with higher quality depth for this year.

All that said, I understand the jury is still out, but things don't seem promising early. We have 11 picks in the 2024 draft right now. It would be inexcusable to fail to get several impact players in that class, considering we are expecting significant turnover over the next few years.

Outside of Moody — who else would be expected to be active regularly? This team is loaded. LB doesn't need that many roster spots on game day. Bell has been active most (every?) games. Luter and Beal are not season ending - they just have better people in front of them (both are late round picks - not sure what you'd reasonably expect). Few players in the NFL would play over our safety combo - let alone a late 3rd round rookie. Latu May be the only obvious miss.

Im not saying they're great or anything. I just don't know what you'd expect considering their pedigree vs the pedigree of the people across this roster in the first two months of their first season.
We had a draft class?
That's what 3rd round and later picks generally are. Backups who you hope can develop into something.

Kyle doesn't like starting rookies.

I'm not griping that we were planning ahead. That's something you need to to do. And truthfully, I actually like a lot of the guys we took as longer term development prospects.

My major criticism is that we didn't put nearly enough focus on our areas of greatest opportunity to compete or contribute: OL and CB. For the life of me, I cannot understand how we could justify two backup tight ends and two linebackers as priorities over offensive line and corner.

We guaranteed Burford and McKivitz starting jobs and then drafted no one to push them and never even held a competition. As good as we've been most of the time, we still occasionally have some totally baffling decisions like this.
Startable rookie oline and cb players are usually gone in rounds 1 and 2. They would've needed to get lucky to find real help at these positions.
It was easy to predict that this draft class wouldn't help this year and was a s**tty one, not just because this is a "loaded team" or because we started picking in the 3rd. Lots of head scratching picks considering both our needs and guys waaaaaaaay overdrafted
1) 2023 draft. Not 2024.
2) Way too early. 1/2 season into rookies is too soon to judge.
3) We traded away our early picks. We didn't have any good picks. They were all traded away. That has an impact.

Two guys I wanted us to pick both went after Latu in OG Nick Saldiveri and OT Blake Freeland.. The latter is a starter, and the former I believe has made one start as well.

I had zero problem passing on the tackles. None of them interested me. Would've liked an interior guy. Kelee Ringo wouldve also been nice.

I actually had zero problem with drafting lbs and tes. Hadn't drafted actual depth there ever. Kicker in 3rd however.

The 2022 draft is just as bad outside of Purdy.

This team picks late. They also gave away a lot of high picks for Trey_ning Wheels. That has an impact. Both do.

1. I was high on him and still am.

2. The pick I hated. Don't see him being more than average.

3. I like the player but drafted too early. Doesn't look good initially.

4. Still high on.

5. One of my favorites. I expect him to push Jackson next year.

6. His time will come.

7. Maybe needs to pick up more of the offense?

8. Like what I have seen

9. We'll see.

No one was going to play much however save for kicker. I'm looking more at the 2022 class.
I still don't know about this year's draft class but the one of 2022 is looking awful.

-Drake Jackson
-Ty Davis-Price
-Danny Gray
-Spencer Burford
-Samuel Womack
-Nick Zakelj
-Kalia Davis
-Tariq Castro-Fields

Brock Purdy

Other than Brock you have me even more depressed than the topic of this thread.

I think Brock will be fine, too football smart to fail, always thinking after a mistake.
