Are there any grades on picks by draft round? Since Kyle and John started we must be ranked last in rounds 1-3. And probably 1st in rounds 4-7, it's so weird.

I think I remember seeing a breakdown of just that a year ago or so?
Great topic. Just because these players are 49ers doesn't mean they're good, quality picks or smart picks. We need to weigh them against the roster needs, where they were picked, chances of growth and PT, etc. Many in here will just tow the company line but it's good to evaluate all of the acquisitions. Nice topic.

Saldiveri is a 6'6" guard at the NFL level (good luck with Purdy playing behind that guy) and Freeland is a 6'8" tackle. Shanahan prefers mobile oliners with leverage, thus I seriously doubt that these guys could've contributed as rookies if ever. The team has severe issues in run blocking without Williams as is.
I know that McGlinchey was 6-8. Also, he sucked at anything athletically challenging. Imho contrary to popular belief even when run blocking.

(Edited to make the post more constructive.)

We had both Adam Snyder (G) and McGlinchey in the 6'7", 6'8" range. Weight (Trent Brown) is the usual issue, not height in terms of "fit."

I mean we're talking about basically a bunch of day 3 guys. I didn't think anyone was gonna really contribute YR1 outside of an injury.

Not sure what we were expecting?

Yeah not sure how height had anything to do with not picking them. Both those dudes can play in this scheme no problem.

Brock is what 6-1? Our OGs are like 6-5 anyway.

I'm still annoyed with them burning picks on a kicker/trash TE instead of investing into the OL. These was an ideal draft to develop some younger guys.

You're right, added that to the OP. I think this team is guilty of making assumptions on multiple levels.

1) they assume that guys are going to progress a certain amount and don't bring in enough competition

2) they constantly assume that there's no chance someone could beat out an incumbent at some positions while failing to consider teams have injuries all the time

The best rookie OL went in the 4th round this year. Last year Seattle found pretty good CBs in the 4th and 5th rounds. Meanwhile the 49ers used 3rd round picks on a kicker and a project TE that didn't look close to being ready to play and they have one good CB and 4/5ths of the OL is a mess.

This team wastes way too many draft picks on non-contributing players and the cracks are starting to show.

I also think Kyle doesn't trust anyone but his starters. Therefore, no one else actually gets a chance to show what they have in a live game. Which is also an issue because Kyle's system is ridiculously complicated. When he does need to sub in backups, the offense completely stalls because no one else knows what theyre doing due to zero playing time.

Don't these guys get paid millions to not make totally bonehead decisions? I don't get it. Just totally stupid chit
Our draft isn't in April, its the week before he trade deadline
pretty crazy that they built up so much goodwill by finding Purdy in the 7th, to overcome Trey Lance and 2 bad draft classes. They better start winning before the flashlight gets brighter
It's pretty hard to have great drafts when you're always picking late. They've had a team that's good enough to compete for the SB for a few years so they're picking late and usually looking for depth. If they get one or two legit starters then it's okay. If you need a top CB you aren't likely to find him late in the 2nd round. Not impossible but not likely. Same with tacles or guards. There are a limited number of true elite players in each drat. After the first 20 picks the talent level drops off.

Lynch has had to rely a lot on signing free agents and making trades to get the top end talent that isn't sitting there in the 3rd round when they always have so many picks.
