That would actually work better than Wilks, sad as it is.

ok, so TODAY I am more than ever convinced that we should use the Horn Frogs 4-2-5 D and get our first pick some playing time already..

You mean versus other team's base offensive personnel (2WRs)? Use Jayir Brown instead of Oren Burks?

Yes, I don't care much of the fact that Oren is a veteran who's very savvy playing special teams.. I would have Huff as the Hybrid LB/SS next to Warner, and let Jayir man the deep middle... He was a very instinctive player at Penn State and we may just need that in the secondary.

I still like the idea of using the SPEED FOUR w/Hargrave being the only DT.

YOUNG - HARGRAVE - BOSA - GANJA as the SPEED FOUR line up..

I'd love to see that, especially with some games and stunts rolled up in there!

I think your on to something 9... it's a new wrinkle that would help with the lack of speed I just don't know how Jayir is at run tackling in case the back breaks the line. If he's good at that, then yes a great idea. We could just use him as the nickel corner because Oliver is out of position on almost every play.

It's really not that hard... both AA and Kinlaw suckin it, Greenlaw has not been the same since he got hurt.. and our secondary just plays that stupid UMBRELLA coverage.. so I fully believe that there is no real RUNNING TEAM in the NFL anymore, it is best to just have our version of the Giants' Speed Four rushing the passer, while having 5 DBs at all time to help our the DL trying to get to the QB.

I'm not sure how the sorry AA and Kinlaw benefits our D while we have good pass rushers in Ganja - Clelin - Drake taking turns every other downs..

I think an unbalanced line with

YOUNG / BOSA / GREGORY / AA

would be beastly.

Loop Gregory outside and have AA smash the middle while Young and Bosa terrorize the left side of the OL, pushing the QB either up into AA or RG's arms waiting for them.

Demand Shanahan steals Jason Verrett from the Texans. Stop getting cute and let the players play fast.

Here comes the classic Wilks 99 yard drive

In this hypothetical scenario, Wilks was just fired during the bye week, and you are the new defensive coordinator. We just opened the practice windows for Darrell Luter & Samuel Womack. Outside of those potential additions, all you have to work with is the rest of the current roster.

What changes do you make that get us back on track to being a dominant defense again?

I'll start with mine:

1) Whenever Young or Bosa sub out, I move Armstead to the edge. It's always a challenge for him to play with great leverage inside and he would be much better at setting the edge than anyone else not named Chase Young or Nick Bosa. Who takes his spot inside? I address that in point #2.

2) I increase the snaps of Kevin Givens. He actually has performed fairly well when given an opportunity lately and I think is underrated.

3) Play Womack outside and Lenoir inside in nickel situations. Womack is supposedly better in press than in zone. If he falters, at that point we need to consider trying Ji'Ayir Brown in a Jimmie Ward type of role in the slot. Either way, Oliver must go to the bench. He's been exposed as a weakness that teams can way too easily attack repeatedly.

4) Throw the 5-man fronts into the trash can and never use them again.

5) STOP playing off-man on short to medium distance. For the life of me I cannot understand why you'd offer a 7-yard cushion on 2nd or 3rd and 2 to go. Regardless of distance, our guys do not have the foot speed/quickness to break on the ball fast enough, especially with such massive cushions.

Well, we didn't do all of this but we did the bold.

The play calling was better, Givens looked great today, and with Oliver on the bench, Ambry Thomas made some big plays. If not for the guys coming out off the sideline, he would've had a touchdown on an awesome run back.

Also being on the sidelines I think was a morale boost for the players, they clearly like having him down there.
He made some very changes today.

Having him on the field is a solid move.
Well, the answer to the question was obviously put Wilks down on the field as was planned. Hard to believe it made that much of a difference, but it did. Oh, and Chase had a hand in it also, as did #71 and Deebo returning to the O.

the one question i still can't come to grips with was how did we have so many 20-25 yd pass completions against our D in all 3 games, the ball being thrown right between the goal posts (which 25 yds away is a small , but good area to aim for). And it didn't happen just 10 times…it happened that many times in just one game. Whatever we were doing…we stopped doing it this past Sunday…thank goodness.
This thread really personifies the hubris of the whole forum lol. We think we know so much more than the actual professionals lol. We will see if Wilks can stay the course, but this thread is just funny in concept.

I stopped reading because no Vet would agree to that. But then I kept reading and realized you didn't want him killed

I 2nd this, never was for firing Wilks, he made adjustments & it worked, keep it going with him on the sideline. Plus we were never firing Wilks anyway
