You could have looked at solely the Bengals game and conclude our whole defense is not talented.
Which game should I be impressed by? Only reason he doesn't have a TD against him is he PI'd Addison in the endzone. Bad PI vs the Giants. Fell down vs the Browns leading to their biggest play. Consistently beaten by the Rams receivers. Yah not seeing a season worth of good play.
Below average starter who can be improved upon. Lets see him and Womack compete inside.
I don't see Womack as a nickel in our system. It's why Thomas hasn't gotten time there.
Our Nickel is more of a safety type. They have to be physical in the run game because if we're in Tampa, he's out likely got to be the guy to clean up tackles over the short middle and is also your C gap filler in cover 3 amd force defender in cover 9.
Womack is more Tarrel Browns size and Jimmie Ward said the 49ers didn't like Womack's physicality from the slot.
That was Oliver's upside. He's a physical tackler but was getting picked on in man-cov.
If anything, it'll be Womack/Thomas battling for outside.
Also understand, you don't just move a guy with fewer starts around from outside to slot. He doesn't have the reps to bounce like Carlos Rogers did. He grew outside last year because he was allowed to be in a spot, stay there and grow.
Nickel and corner use different techniques, different drops, play leverage different, it's not interchangeable.
