If we clinched #1 seed before week 18 but could keep rams out of the playoffs, would you play our starters 4 quarters?

Don't want to keep them out of the playoffs. I want them in to potentially beat the Lions and keep us from having to face both Philly and Dallas.

IMO the Rams are the most dangerous team other than the Niners in the NFC going into the playoffs. Nakua, Kupp, Kyren Williams and Stafford are on fire right now. Williams has been over 100 yards in 5 of his last 6 games. Our defense is better than theirs, but their offense can put up a lot of points, and we've struggled with both Kupp and Nakua. We've especially been burned in the slot, so I'm definitely more confident with Lenoir's emergence, but they're going to be a tough team.

Yeah, the Rams can definitely give us issues with a quick passing game. Their WR's have the short area quickness to beat our CB's, and it can negate our pass rush. Our NFCCG loss to them a few years ago, was essentially a perfect execution of that gameplan.

Just a difficult gameplan for them to run though, because it does rely on long, extended drives. They pretty much have to play perfectly--- QB has to play with a ton of discipline, and the offense can't take negative yardage via sacks/TFL, or penalties.

They can make it a game. But I honestly think our offense is too explosive. If we can get a bit of a lead by the fourth quarter, they become one-dimensional and clock becomes a factor.

Lastly, Mooney Ward wasn't on our team when Kupp/OBJ destroyed us. Our CB's are playing with a ton of confidence now. I can see them challenging the Rams WR's on pivotal third and 6's, and shut down drives.

Yeah I expect us to win, just saying they were really close to beating Baltimore a week ago, and sliced up their top ranked D. The Rams are playing really well right now, and if we don't beat Baltimore I'm definitely a bit concerned about the Rams game.

Agree. The Rams have the superior QB. I'd rather face an inferior QB in the playoffs. An inferior QB, even with great players, will fold when the pressure is on.
My wife got me this for my birthday today. I'll be breaking it out after the 49ers win the Super Bowl

Nice to have some breathing room but too early to pop the champagne yet.

While it's not likely to lose the next 2 out of 3 it's still not impossible with the Ravens and Rams still to go and given that we had a 3 game losing streak against teams we probably shouldn't have lost too I don't want to take anything for granted.

Washington is no cakewalk considering it's flying across the country after a late mnf game.

Yes we will be playing 3 games in 13 days to end the season, which we all know is basically impossible to do.
Just win the next 2 and then we can talk about what can we do against the Lambs.

Congratulations. Awesome gift and awesome wife with all due respect.
Regarding the Rams game: if they beat the saints and if Seattle drops a game, they could be locked in to the 6 seed by the time we play them and thus would have no motivation to play their starters against us

Let's just get the #1 seed locked up after the Commanders game and sit everyone for the Rams game. 👍

Funny if we both sit players in that game.

agree on a draw? lol

Whats funny is we can clinch the #1 seed this week itself

Vikings need to beat the Lions
Eagles need to lose to Giants
Cowboys have tolose to Miami

all three need to happen along with a 49er win i doubt this happens though

I just can't see the Eagles losing to the Giants, I can see the Vikings & Dolphins winning, Lions really don't scare me, and the Cowboys are the Cowboys, they can't beat a good team, except the Eagles.

agreed. It would be nice though to have these last 2 weeks to bubble wrap our players though

I remember when the colts with Manning sat players the final week and had the bye...They were rusty as hell and lost in the playoffs. Another year they scored so much the defense was literally gassed come playoff time etc. Also Strahan talking about their 07 run and how having a week off would have killed their mojo. Once they almost ended the pats perfect season that last game they all felt they really had a chance and that carried them all the way.

I love that story btw. Coughlin sat his guys down and asked them (Giants already knew their playoff slot before the final game) and said do you want to rest or try to beat these undefeated mofos and the players all wanted the go at them. It got them going for sure.

Obviously Kyle wants the bye, but I'd expect the starters to play half the final game even if its already locked up.

Here is a quote from our coach.
"I think that's one of the biggest mistakes people make just watching it over the years. That's my opinion," Shanahan said Tuesday. "I would understand if you were getting ready for a seven-game series, I don't think football is like that. It's three and a half hours. It's one shot. I've been on a lot of teams where you rest guys and or give guys a few more weeks and those are usually the guys who struggle the most in that first playoff game."
