SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS vs TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - 2023 Season Game 10

Even the expectations of our own fanbase are crazy. They really do expect zero yards and zero points every single game or else they aren't good enough.

It was hilarious in the GameDay thread. Bucs had 7 points at halftime and you'd have thought we gave up 35. Unless we shut a team out, people are going to b***h

i think the fanbase here is getting old and senile lol its the only explanation for all the b***hiness despite us ranking top 3 in almost every statistical category. Like they watch the 49ers and no one else and think this is 1980 when a team scoring 20 points was more rare

Funny how no one mentions the Niners as a top D when they're allowing 15.7 points a game

They're not even close. Watch the games

They're 1st in points allowed, 5th in total yards allowed and tied for 2nd in takeaways.

Apparently it's not good enough unless we shut out every team. The nfl has made it so easy for offenses to score that it's impressive how many good defenses there are in this league.

theyre people in KS thread still saying he isn't a good HC despite us losing 3 games in a calandar year

This fanbase can be very toxic at times.

I will admit I am one of those fans that criticize and wanted more out of the defense at halftime. I am not complaining about the Bucs per say and how that first half went, but I am thinking about the bigger picture. I am looking down the road at the Seahawks, Eagles, and Ravens coming up. We gave up 14 points, two long TD drives again. If we play like we did against the Bucs, the Eagles will easily be in the 20's. I'm praying we can hold the Eagles and Ravens offenses down, but they need to figure out these defensive lapses. The quick passes, screens, runs up the gut were killing us. Eagles and Ravens will toy with our defense if we keep making that stuff available to them.

WOW its almost like the team gameplans differently against different teams

also another shocker its harder to stop elite teams

Yes. The offense is going to have to be at its best when the defense is playing elite NFL offenses. Because elite offenses are going to make plays. That is nothing new when it comes to the NFL.
I rarely post anymore but this is something I will also admit - I've become that fan too! My Steelers fan friend told me yesterday..."You just want to win by 80pts...every time!"

Watching the Jags game with him and how stressed and upset I was, he was like...it's the 4th quarter, you guys haven't even allowed a Touchdown, and you're mad at the defense!?

How did I become this fan? How do I change? LOL ------ I think for me, this comes down to watching this team go to two Super Bowls and lose and being considered "right there" on the cusp of winning it all but having yet to do it. I just want to see us get to 6 soooooooo freaking badly!

Yeah, the only real concern about our defense is how they struggle when teams pass quickly (<2.5s) and containing mobile QB's. Secondary remains a concern and could be an Achilles heel against an OC and QB when they can maximize a quick strike passing game AND convert TD's.

That was really Purdy, Aiyuk and Kittle on offense. Not much from the rest of the O. The D was good but not great. Overall a win is win but losing Huf could be a problem.

I'm curious if we flip this around

if our offense scored 14 points and had 280 yards and 2 turnovers would you call it a good but not great game?

You're not getting my point. In 2019 we did stop elite offenses on occasion. I think the talent was less, but the D coaching was better than it is now. The Niners have the talent to stop elite offenses, but they're not living up to it right now. Wilks is better, but there's still room for improvement.

That's odd logic - if you remove the offensive players that had good performances, it wasn't a good offensive performance.

Again we have allowed the lowest points per game the lowest amount of touchdown in the bfl and forced the most turnovers

I see no reason to complain overall when it comes to whole season play

Dallas has the 2nd most points in nfl and they scored 13 points against us and we're 100% healthy

With all the money and time they've spent on the defense. I expect more. Good is okay but I want great. Look at all the high draft picks and key free agents on this D. They should be dominating like the 1985 Bears.

Here are some defensive ranks
PPG allowed: 1st
TDs allowed 2nd
Yards/game: 5th
Turnovers/game: 2nd
Interceptions: 1st

maybe your eyes need checking because overall this is a top 2 defense this season at worst

ppl acting like we are 28th, and heads gotta roll
