49ERS at EAGLES Pregame Thread - 2023 Season Week 13

I thought we would've beaten the Eagles last year and they seemed like a much better team than this year. They seem worse in every area except for running. Swift has been playing real well.

Adding Hargrave and Young on our side tips the strength in our direction quite a bit IMO.

True, that's a weakness until proven otherwise.

You want to be the underdog in this one, no need to give them home under dogs vibes, that's how they won their only Super Bowl

That's their Kryptonite. Has been since 2019. A running QB is very difficult for this defense to handle. Mahomes, Hurts, Jackson, Wilson (more so in his prime but he has improved this year) give them big problems.

I hope we don't hear Niner fans whining about the officials if we lose this game. I've seen a lot of posts on this forum about the league and the refs favoring KC. Guess what. KC leads the league in holding penalties this year. I'm not saying the officials never get it wrong but they're right most of the time. The only complaint I have with officials is when they call too many penalties and slow the entire pace of the game. Call the blatant fouls. Otherwise let them play.

Our D line has gotten so good about group pass rush just squeezing the pocket. Hurts gonna have to win from the pocket and I don't think he's that guy.

PHI can do everything pretty well, not necessarily a rhythm short pass game, but they run like a slegehammer, and Hurts plays a big role there,
then two elite deep threat WRs,

on the PHI push play, I noticed vs BUF, all the PHI team is pushing yet not all the BUF team is pushing. Some on BUF are containment just watching the play, you gotta get all in there and push to match what PHI is doing, it's a front line being pushed by a back line
if they want to run something else out of that front, let em do it, no need for contain, got to stuff the push to get em off the field

Agree 💯% regarding their offense in that they can run it and pass it. They are a potent offense. They will have home field advantage as an offense, and can call plays that Kyle may not becuase of the crowd noise. I have the feeling its going to be the team which scores last - wins - kind of game.

So can we.. And I don't think it will be who scores last like many of their other games because we will be ahead by two TDs.

Eagles generally don't let opposing teams get too much more than one-ish more scoring leads on them. So I would love a two TD lead on them, but I don't think that's going to happen. They are good enough offensively to keep track with us.

I see heavy rain so far.

East coast rain is louder. Be prepared.

Does that mean there's a lot of heavy water back east?

49ers are 2 point favorites now, according to CBS.

There's no take to it. This team offensively has not played well in the rain. The entire offense.

Not directed at you personally but honestly F&*K the rain. It is what it is. If the team has a loser mentality over the weather they arent meant to be champions anyway. Rain will affect both teams the same.

If the Rain affects us that much, Jed better invest in a retractable Dome or something at Santa Clara.

I agree the weather affects both teams, but I thought I was witnessing something biblical in Chicago last year. It was a complete downpour when our offense was on the field, then it let up and actually got sunny for like 10 mins during a Chicago drive. It was like they were controlling the weather

Agree on Kyle having to be prepared for the refs (including having a spotting system) so that he's not caught flat-footed on any ref challenges. This is one game where Kyle being both HC *and* OC might hurt him in processing any referee challenges.

The rain might be a blessing in that Kyle may be forced to keep it on the ground offensively, which is the Eagles (statistical) weakness, instead of airing it out like last time and getting his QB injured.
Actually they are good against the run and worse against the pass. Hurts throws a lot of Int's and also has a tendency to fumble so we have a good chance of getting some TO's from him. As to Riddick I say run at him and see if we can pull TW to help take him out.
And if Brock is having trouble throwing in the rain maybe he should think about wearing gloves. JMHO, Go Niners!!!

Statistically yes, you are correct. They are good against the run and bad against the pass. But from my raw eyes and what games I've watched of the Eagles, they are actually very good against the run and even better against the pass - and the reason is because generally they are ahead most of the time and teams are having to pass on them to catch up. Again, that's the impression I have, and it's as you said, quite the opposit statistically.

I don't think who Vegas favors in the game matters at all to the teams. It matters to me as a fan because it renders everything the media says moot.
