49ERS at EAGLES Pregame Thread - 2023 Season Week 13

I see majority of so-called professional gamblers, Youtubers and even media are picking the 9ers. They're reasons, this is 49ers revenge game, the 49ers are a better DVOA team (I still don't get what that means), Eagles aren't as explosive this season.

What I find very fascinating is that when the Niners last played a regular season game in Philly (2021 within the first few weeks with Jimmy G), the thing that stood out to me was how the Eagles were kicking our ass on the LOS when we were on offense. It took awhile to finally get a real drive going (2 maybe 3 drives?). In hindsight this was to be expected, but it was shocking when watching it for the first time.

We finally broke the game open scoring on a big YAC play by Deebo or something, right before halftime too I believe. I think this was also a game of firsts, maybe Juan Jennings first NFL TD or Sherfield....that stands out to me for some reason.

What I also realized was how mediocre Hurts looked, completely shut down by a certain point and had he been a bit of a better passer then, they probably would've won on the final drive. He definitely ran a good amount on that last drive but couldn't threaten us with his arm.

Now, that Jalen has improved, but so has our offense.

Remember how people used to look at Kaepernick in say 2014 as some guy who can't play the position like a real QB but could make some plays? I think Hurts in 2021 was AT BEST Kap 2014 (if even that).....and he was certainly not 2012/2013 Kap either. I thought the Hurts that got embarrassed in Tampa playoff game was worse than Trey Lance, FOR SURE. Just counting down the days until he was no longer an Eagle....

Now he's suddenly a GUY.....I dunno, LOL.....I still don't truly believe in him. He finally became a decent QB all around, but like Lamar, there are question marks........and last season's postseason against a terrible Giants defense and no NFL QB in the NFCC has GOT TO BE the easiest trip to the SB I could ever recall. Lamar would've easily made a SB under such circumstances as would've Jimmy and many others........who wouldn't have, really?

We're gonna find out a lot this year.

But I do find it interesting that the Eagles were a complete surprise in 2021, and the eye test showed we played them tougher than expected in January.

BTW gents, remember this -- in January/February, defenses get tougher to move the ball on, not easier. If Jalen doesn't do a ton this Sunday, expect even less in the rematch....

No. Eagles fans are delusional and most of them are scum but I don't want a player getting hurt just so they can understand what we went through, especially a great person like Hurts.

I just want to beat them! We do that and it's sweeter when they can't find any excuses. They simply got beat.

I was looking at the daily lines on ESPN and the Niners are favored by 3 and since the home team gets 3 means the bookies feel we are really 6 pt favorites. I'm not sure how I feel about this. It's going to be interesting to see which way the betting goes leading up to the game. I don't bet on the games but I hope there are a lot of poor Eagles fans come Monday morning. LFG Niners!!!!!!

We should run straight at him a lot of the game. Bulldoze right at him. He's only 6'1" 240 lbs. Slow him down and tire him out. Break his will. A few pancake blocks where you land full weight on him is great too.

I have been telling all the eagles fans who have been talking smack on social media that if they are so confident than put your next paycheck on the game.

Idk the answer, just curious if jalens pocket stats are due to him holding onto the ball for a long time. The announced said that during the bills game and i was curious how true that is.

Yup. QB was a part of the equation. Jalen still struggles to read coverages and yet they keep calling more pass plays for him to get sacked and hit on.

Yeah, so when I've watched hurts drop back - I feel like his passing schemes are super simple. Don't get me wrong, he's made some awesome throws but if we can contain him on the ground (big if), I think we pick him off numerous times and he struggles against guys like ward and demo

in the NFCC, we were doing a great job in the passing game until the defense finally wore down because we couldn't do a damn thing on offense.

I'm just praying the weather isn't too bad because that'll be a huge equalizer for them (limits our passing game). If we are able to get some decent weather, I can see us scorching them through the air, which will open up the run game. I think that was our game plan in the NFCC but obviously we didn't have a qb
