Since they are pretty much 99.9 percent in getting first downs when using it, I say the DLine just goes ahead and smashes it before the ball is hiked. Push Kelse right back into Jalen and I mean plow them under, someone mentioned that at the Goal line it would be a small penalty they can't get an automatic TD on a penalty. Just smash em when they line up in it.
Absolutely. Mash them every time they try it. They should jump over the top and pile drive down on Hurts too. Several guys. Not just 1. Eventually they will stop calling the play.

Kinlaw will be the first DT to ever get pancaked on a tush push.

If Teams would start blowing it up before the ball is hiked then I think they would think twice before running it.
I agree. Try to time it but have whoever is over center, blow up Kelce and blast Hurts. If they're early, c'est la vie.

you gotta push with all eleven, that's how they execute it, that's how it must be stopped, no contain, just all 11 pushing. A front line,, being pushed by a back line. They control the snap, and the timing, but a tie would go to the D. You could even have a personnel specific for that play, but the trick is they can go quick without a substitution and we must do likewise, bit of a chess match, maybe have the key personnel already in on 3rd, or call a TO.
And then they walk in a td off a fake, lol.
Yeah I would do the opposite, since your only chance of stopping the play is pretending you're trying to stop the sneak but everyone goes for the fake instead.

maybe they do, you either match 11 v 11, or you allow them to get free first downs
if you watch BUF they had contain on the edge and those guys essentially spectated the play
NFL D is about choosing what you want to defend or take away. It bothers me when they can get free first downs at will. I would try to stop that play, if they want to get aggressive out of that formation, I tip my cap

Stop the play on first and second down. Regular QB sneaks are highly effective as well.
It's really not 11 on 11 in the way you describe it. You're talking a super condensed area in the middle of the two units with the biggest players on the field.

It's a rugby scrum, you get the 11 v 11 from a front line being pushed by a back line, this is the shove component. You need to shove as a D also. If it's a 11 v 7 shove you will lose, if you aren't shoving at all you will lose also. you don't need to win the shove, you just need to deny forward progress or a draw

If they are early, it's a five yard penalty. Such is life! Horrible idea. Have the 49er defense jump into the Eagles line BEFORE the ball is snapped? THIS is your example of a good idea? No, it's not. It's just another five yard penalty for being offsides. Jump at the same time? Great idea! Which Eagles player is going to give the 49er defense the correct snap count?
The best way to stop a 3rd and 1 or even a 4th and 1 Tush Push is to make sure that it's a 3rd and TEN play. An even better strategy is to take a 21-point lead into half time. Make Jalen one dimensional. No more Tush Push!

You cant push with all 11 - or at least you shouldnt.
you do that once and they will leak out a fake on you for a TD.

Yessir,
It's an fascinating play I am brainstorming how to handle, in the modern era, they have made a rugby style 3 yds and a cloud of dust tactic the talk of the league. So I tip my cap in some sense..
that's part of the fun of football imo, a tactic and the counter to said tactic, then of course PHI will have their counter or shot play off of that formation

You don't need 11 guys at the line.

I can see every ones point on the Tush Push. I'm just saying Punch them in the Mouth one time when they line up to do it. Heck they get around 3 to 4 yards when they do it so whats a 5 yard penalty for offsides? 49ers need to pick their spot to do it, not at a critical moment.
If they line up in it Sunday and that is if (which I hope they don't I hope they never get the opportunity to use the play due to it being 3rd and 8 or 4th and 8 or so.) I hope the 49ers can stop it. No other team has been able to I hope the 49ers can, Minnesota doing it is a lot different than Philadelphia.

Pretty sure this idea was being floated on KNBR yesterday. They were talking about it because one of the Bills defenders just blew through the line early on an attempt last Sunday.

Yeah I talked about it earlier in the week and posted an article earlier about Kelce complaining about what Phillips did. I think he is just putting a bug in the refs ear for this Sunday to maybe get a personal foul call on it if the 49ers were to do what Phillips did.

I guess there's some 'logic' to it on a goal line attempt, lol. Certainly not going to make any friends and would fall outside of the 'winning with class' nonsense.
