I dont know about 7-step dropback, but yeah backup TE trying to block Bosa - thats how Bosa got his first sack this season. It was a first and ten on the Giants 10 yard line and Bellinger - the backup TE - had to chip Bosa which he failed to do and Nick dropped Jones for 8 yard sack
Here's the thing. 22 personnel by definition will have a backup TE there (two TE set). By definition, on a pass out of 22 personnel, there is a very high probability that the backup TE will be blocking an edge defender. That's just how things work in football. You'll often have backup receivers and TEs blocking or chipping good pass rushers. That's part of football. The only reason people are talking about such a thing is because of results-oriented approach, ie Purdy's injury. It's a non-story. Whenever I watch football I see tons of missed blocks in every other game, many much more egregious than what Kroft did against Reddick.
