What did they do to mess with it? All I see are fans being tourist taking a picture in front of an iconic movie statue. Talk about being sensitive.

A bunch of fake tough guys in the northeast
This all reminds me of a work assignment by Kiln, Mississippi. As you entered there was a giant sign announcing it as the hometown of Bret Favre. One of my co-workers had a Mom who loved Favre and a Dad who hated him. We stopped in front of the sign on our way back to civilization after finishing the project and took two pictures of my smiling co-worker… the first with him giving two big thumbs up in front of the sign and the second with him giving two middle fingers to the sign. We jumped into the rental car and drove like hell.

"f**kin Rocky is your hero? The whole pride of your city is built around a f**kin guy who doesn't even exist. You got f**kin Joe Frasier who's from here but he's black so you can't f**kin deal with him, so you make a f**king statue for some three foot f**kin italian, you stupid philly cheese eating f**kin jackasses!"---Bill Burr

My guess is the Rocky movies brought way more attention and fame to the city than Joe Frasier ever did. Not only that but the statue is meant to represent the spirit of the city.

And the best part is, Rocky was supposed to be derived from real boxer Chuck Wepner "The Bayonne Bleeder" from NJ, and Apollo Creed was to be Muhammad Ali. Nothing Philly about it.

The whole point of the movie being set in Philly was that it has the reputation of a hard scrabble working town compared to its bigger neighbor, New York. If that movie had been set in NYC it wouldn't have had the same gritty look. What's wrong with Philly putting up a statue of a movie character that brought attention to the city. Would anyone be upset if they put up a statue of Clint Eastwood in SF?

At least Clint Eastwood is a real person. Rocky Balboa is not a real person.

Siriani is from Buffalo, I believe. Theyre just showing the hometown coach some love
A statue of Dirty Harry with his 44 Magnum in San Francisco would be great

OK. This is good.
Just a reminder what Bill Burr thinks about Philly.

Do they even allow Bill Burr in Philadelphia after that?

He would be an interesting SF native statue candidate. He has been mostly a Republican businessman but has some liberal leanings:

Although not born in SF, I would personally go with a Carlos Santana statue.

Heaven forbid such a thing. This isn't the place for politics. Nor is Top Dog for that matter.

If we don't care where the person is from then I would go with an Optimus Prime statue in SF. Optimus would beat the crap out of Rocky imo.
