Sorry but people need to get off the "Hurts is great" bandwagon. His mobility gives him an added advantage because he buys more time to find his receivers, but he's nothing more than a refined Russell Wilson in his prime. Either find his talented receivers wide open or throw up prayers and hope his guys make a play.
Not impressed
He's not a great passer in this context. That's not really a secret.
I'm taking prime Mr Unlimited over him as well. Definitely don't think Hurts is a refined version of him. They're different players.
There was no method to Willow's game. First read not open, scramble all the way to the right. Second read not open, spin back and run all the way to the left. First and second read not open, slot guy missing amongst the DBs. no problem, just chuck up a prayer as far as possible and someone will come down with it. That in essence has been Wilson's career.
you can actually see Hurts trying to go through his progressions. He's just so slow at computing that it take forever and if your defense isn't disciplined he'll find the gap and take off. In our particular game our lineman maintained their gaps and dared Hurts to use all that time to go through his progressions. Unfortunately he couldn't do it and then found himself on an island looking for a running lane that wasn't there to be found.
Definitely more refined than Wilson, but just as bad at playing the position like you're supposed to. Good defenses can mask those deficiencies but as soon as you lose that defense, your gameplay gets exposed.
