My belief and confidence in this team is so high that it scares me. Like, I'm afraid to fall in love with this team. I take more comfort in teams that are underdogs. I want to believe that this is the squad that will finally get the job done but I don't want to be let down.
In years past I would get so hyped up and get so devastated when we lost. When we lost the SB against the Ravens, I was severely depressed for 3 weeks. Same when we lost the following year to Seattle. In recent years I've handled disappointing losses a little better but I would be lying if I said I wasn't affected.
As we approach the more dramatic phases of the season, I'm going to take action to look after my mental health. Trying to balance my attention between Niner content and my other hobbies, so that my mental energy isn't so locked in to Niner football. What strategies do you guys use to not get so high or low?

My confidence in the team has always been there. My confidence in Kyle is growing to adapt and not be so stubborn. Possibly able to make the adjustments necessary to not choke.
My confidence in burford is still not there. I firmly believe if we don't win the SB this year it will be due strictly to burford and potentially Kyle if he regresses.
There really is no reason for them not to win this year. If we lose it will be to the ravens in the SB because harbaugh out coached shanahan with less talent and won. We are better than them in every facet so the only difference is coaching.
Eagles are not as good this year and the chiefs have no weapons for mahomes and kelce has lost a step. That makes us the most talented team in the NFL and Brock is the best QB outside of mahomes.
What excuses are left if we lose?
Take solace in that shanahan will not make it out of purdys rookie contract if he does not win one by then. So the max suffering can go on is 3 years.

Yeah…That's one way I try to cope too.,,by focusing on what I see are weaknesses. I also don't think our O line isn't very good. It's logical to think that if we fail it will be because our O Line isn't good enough

I'm super confident in this team, they are without a doubt the best team in the nfl when healthy and rolling. I also happen to have a very small part of my brain feel negative though and warn me not to get my hopes up too high which is probably due to the 2 recent super bowl loses and 4 nfc championship game loses. Those were so fn painful, they still linger in my thoughts. If this team can finish the job tho, it will put those feeling to rest forever. I got faith that they can

The only thing I'm scared of is injuries because I know nobody in the league is beating this team when they're fielding all their players. Isn't this how you older guys felt in the 80s and 90s?

It's the NFL and playoffs are single-elimination. The reality is, experiencing a sudden end to the season in January is quite a common experience for all fanbases, no matter how good the team is.
There isn't anything you or I can do about it, so no use getting overly stressed about it. This is supposed to be for fun and entertaining. If they lose… you'll have to wake up the next day and go to work. If they win the Super Bowl… you'll have to wake up the next day and go to work. You'll just be a little happier and more distracted for a bit.
Watching your team win a championship is a beautiful moment to absorb while it happens and also reflect on in the future. Watching your team's season end in heart-breaking fashion is a great opportunity to step back and realize there are millions of things in the world and your life that matter besides football.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, just live in the moment, because you can't control anything so it's not worth overwhelming yourself over it. And if the chips don't fall the right way, then all you can do is continue life and watch the team try again next season.

Don't be scared to fall in love with this team. There's a lot to love about it. But if there isn't a happy ending, remember it's just entertainment. As long as the games are fun to watch and the team is fun to follow along with, then the emotions invested into 49er football should be considered well spent.
If I find myself taking a 49er loss hard I go do life stuff to remind myself I have stuff to do. Three weeks in a rut is way too long for grieving a sports team's season ending. It's good you reflected, and are aware this time around. Just enjoy the season. It's better than the offseason.
And yeah, this could be the team that gets the job done.

I'm like a crazy girlfriend when it comes to this team. One minute I hate them and next minute I love them. Example would be the first quarter of the eagles game. I'm yelling why do I bother with this team, then the last 3 quarters I love them dearly and say let's never fight again.

There are times over the last 2 years that this team has given me dynasty era vibes....but that is often fleeting.
The best way to try and communicate what Joe was as a QB is our current faith in the "opening drive" on offense. Joe was not with out faults, Bill Walsh's stuff didn't always work..etc...etc...etc...but it was flawless enough...it is kinda like our opening drives. That would be a today to then direct comparison. Once you factor in the era....it was bonkers. Compared to other teams from the 80s it was pretty insane.
With Steve it was more of he will make something happen on 3rd down vibe. That was kind-of the magic with Steve...he will move the chains and eventually Taylor,Jones, Watters or Rice will break something wide open. The way I recall it...more of a big play era. More like the end of last year...when somebody was going to just break something off and get a ton of YAC.
The biggest difference is on defense...49ers had absolutely stacked defenses. I remember having a ton of faith in the defense. We went something like 1981 or 1982... I forget... to the end of the Seifert era in the mid 90s never giving up 300 points in a season. With many seasons under the 250 let alone the 280ish we allowed last year. So think of last years defense...only better. The KC Super Bowl year we gave up 300ish...so...these teams don't feel the same to me. Granted there is one more game now then in the 80s and 90s but we are often talking 40+ point differences or more.
Steve Young's Super Bowl run did feel different...those battles against Dallas..... that team did give up points (296 had to look it up), but in truth..that defense was built to stop one team...Dallas. Against Dallas...I distinctly remember just hoping for the offense to get to the point they could punt the ball..we would be safer on defense as we attempted to flip field position.....I never had that feeling with Joe or even Bono. I also don't have that Vibe with Brock. I never wanted the ball out of Joe's hands because momentum was absolutely against us and a single mistake early in a game could end the game right now.
Brock converts 3rd and long often enough with out turning the ball over he gives off real franchise vibes. Yes we know Brock has to get better at playing from behind...but in general...it is hard enough to shut down the offense by getting behind on down and distance. On the flip side there is no bad boy Cowboys anymore, and in the early 90s era...that was the only team to fear. So it is not a direct comparison to what Steve had to face compared to what Brock has to face. You can't even compare what Joe had to face, to what Steve had to face.
In the 80s the 49ers were the monster. No team had a QB like Montana, no team had a secondary like the 49ers. It was a revolutionary offense with a monster defense..and like you said about our current team...only real fear was injuries as I remember it.
In the first half of the 90s...Dallas was the monster and thank God for their owner being hard to work with. If the salary cap did not come along, and that team did not tear itself apart...they probably would have gotten ..dude...I dunno....5 super bowls is not out of the realm of possibility...they were young and their A game was unstoppable.
Lucky for us this current team is playing in a more evenly matched era.

No I don't agree. There are a number of reasons why we may lose between now and the final whistle of the superbowl and to pre emptively decide that it is down to Burford or Shanahan is just wrong. There could be a number of reasons why it might happen, the dreaded injury bug being just one. The tone of your post seems like you half want it to be Shanahan to give us an excuse to get rid of him. And what if it is?
For the record I think that Shanahan is the best offensive HC in the NFL right now. And that the Shanahan/Lynch combo is far and away the best. For years now posters have been moaning about him and calling for his head. It goes quiet when I ask who they will replace him with. And what makes you think that your "suffering " will then go away? It is highly likely that the team will take several backward steps as they adjust to a new coach and, likely, a new system. And no guarantee that this new coach will bring success.
What excuses will be left? That depends why we lose. I don't look for excuses and I would hope that the team would just announce, on the day we were beaten by a better team, but we will be back. Excuses are for Philadelphia fans. Lynch has shown that they are building a team which will be in the hunt year after year.
Your final paragraph, reassuring fans that Shanahan will get sacked, causes me to just shake my head. Hopefully, for most of the fans here, that would be a matter for great sadness rather than solace. Going the whole way to win the Super Bowl requires luck as well as all the other coaching qualities. Shanahan remains our best shot at the title, come what may.

I am just enjoying the ride. This has been some of the best football I have seen. If it ends up with an SB, that's great. If not, doesn't change that this has been a blast to watch, like it's 1994 or something. But it's football..expect ups and downs. It's just how it is. I figure nothing can be a s**tty as the Ravens winning it all when we were basically, at the 1 yard line and could have walked it in. I mean. Then having some chick with purple, glitter eye shadow next to me say, "Well that has gotta suck! Hahaha!". With her evil, beady eyes staring at me, waiting for my reaction. My reaction was that my soul left my body and I sulked over in my chair..totally defeated lol.
Or yeah, the SB with KC where somehow..we s**t away in the last 7 minutes like we never played a damn game of football. I honestly, did not wanna watch football again after that. Lol. I was very much used to the 9ers winning, after seeing three superbowl wins, this losing s**t was unacceptable and a disgrace lol. After experiencing the highest of highs and lowest of lows, it really just comes down to, it's a game and overall, it's been a lot of fking fun.

I am I at the point that I hate to even mention anything about the team I'm afraid I will jinx it.
