49ers 2023 Offense vs. the 2023 Defense: Who wins?

great thread

if we go tale of the tape, the D is #1 in points 7th in yds
O is #3 in points, 2nd in yds

we have the #1 rush D in football
and we force more INTs than any team

it's pretty wild, you could argue we have the top O and the top D in the game
our challenge will be team that can make a similar argument

KC has Mahomes and Reid with the #3 D in points
DAL is #1 in points for and top 5 points against
BAL will be an interesting test, top 5 in both also (SB preview??)

That rush D ranking is in large part an artifact of the offensive racking up points and the opposing team passing to play catch-up. We have the fewest rush attempts against by a significant margin.

good point, maybe ypc would be the measure, we are 8th
The offense is a juggernaut and the defense has not faced any other offense this year near close.

The rest of the league is so weak on offense this year that half the starting QBs aren't playing and people are debating choke Prescott as the MVP...

Our defense has not been near dominant regularly giving up huge drives to scrubs like the 99 yard drive to Arizona.

Purdy would wipe the floor with them... Even with bum mckivitz and burford blocking.
If Purdy doesn't win mvp then I think he's a shoo-in for comeback player of the year. Don't think the NFL want 1 player to get both awards. Offense will always win because defense won't play hard enough to injure the stars on their own offense. Coach to coach Shanahan would win unless he gets too cute. Defense took a step back under Wilks and he has them blitzing too much
Look at it this way, Purdy is playing at a top 1 or debatable 2 spot in the NFL at quarterback. Is bosa playing at that? Is he even playing at a top 5 on defense level?

Our best offensive player is playing much better than our best defensive player. And that's not counting how well CMC and Trent are playing. Even if you say okay maybe warner is playing near the top at his position... Would you consider anybody on defense even close to winning Dpoy?
Our offense is out performing the defense IMO. And its not really that close.

There has never been a good definition for the comeback player of the year. But because he technically never miss a single game, I don't think most people believe he is even qualified to win this award.
I voted offense. And it's not a slight on the defense. I just think this offense is unstoppable if everyone is healthy. It's why I am not that concerned about the injuries we currently have on the defensive side of the ball.

I think it'll be hard to beat out that guy from Buffalo who died and came back to life to play football again.

Hamlin is a massive betting favorite. Purdy's not even on the board as far as I can see.
Think the Cards game solidifies this answer - Offense

Not impressed by our defense. Too many holes, and I don't like that Wilks needs the first quarter every game to figure things out.

we win a SB if our offense carries us. If we have to rely on our defense, game over !
