Is Christian McCaffrey the best Rb ever to wear a 9er uniform?

He's incredible but too early and too many great ones from the past. Craig, Ricky Waters, Gore, Hurst. If he keeps it up for another 2-3 years then he could be the best.

Wendel Tyler for me, but CMC is Marshall Faulk 2.0

We have a great history of RB's *and* QB's. Hearst, Craig, Rathman, Watters, Gore etc...

You can't forget guys like Joe Perry and Hugh McElhenny. Those guys were great in their era. McElhenny was the best punt returner I ever saw. CMC is a better pass receiver than any of those backs other than maybe Craig.

Waters is definitely in the conversation as far pass catching backs go.
We'd be having arguments about Watters being the best RB to ever play if he had stayed with the niners.

Probably would have had 2 more rings as well. Not having a star RB left us just short for a number of years.

Not bringing back Waters was a colossal mistake and then they more or less neglected the position until they acquired Hearst.

Watters only played in SF for 3 seasons. He gained about 2800 yards and caught about 50 passes per year. Definitely a great player but he didn't play in SF long enough to make my list.
Most talented... No question.

Best... Is Gore for the time being due to longevity.
He's on his way for sure, but need to see how he holds up over the next few years. But let's see what happens at the end of this season. Get us another Lombardi then we can start the discussions.
What would Derek Loville say if he was asked this question?

Thomas Clayton remains undisturbed.

This.
Gore has been my favorite Niner for quite some time. Not only the on-field play but the heart and the love for both the game and the organization. But if I was starting a team right now and could have any past 49er RB - and possibly any RB in history, regardless of team, in their prime - I might take CMC #1.
There are those who might be 99/100 in certain areas but most would have their 91/100 in other areas. CMC not less than 98/100 in any catagory.
