You'd think an offensive genius could game plan around that

He sorta did by dialing up the passing plays.

I'd imagine the thought process was the Ravens' D was going to focus on stuffing the run so pass the ball to back them off than once you have them on their heels a bit hit them with the run and once that works you follow it up with play action passes.

The fanbase can speak out of its mouth at times. We want to say Purdy is elite and bring up all these crazy numbers and proclaim we've got the most talented group of skill players in the league but at the same time we armchair it when it doesn't work out and say we should've ran the ball more.

That's not to defend Shanahan and say his playcalling is perfect but if we're this talented on offense we shouldn't really have a problem on how much Shanahan deploys the pass or run.

CMC was peeling off like 7 YPC

If offensive genius could always game plan against the talent against them then Walsh would have been far better against Parcells.

Obviously Walsh is no offensive genius, being held to 3 points in consecutive playoff games.

There are such silly, ahistorical takes around here.

Could you imagine this forum after the three 1-and-done playoff appearances of 1985-1987.
The big difference is Walsh had actually won championships at the point the two aren't remotely comparable.
The big difference then Joe Montana. Joe was one of a kind. Walsh was a genius but joe made it click.

Yup.......Joe was the best I've ever seen.

Yes he was. There will never be another Joe. He was clutch.

I disagree it was a mutually beneficial marriage for sure but to downplay Walshs value is ridiculous.

I don't think calling someone a genius is downplaying their value.

lol Walsh's offense is practically the main foundation of how offenses are still run today. He was clearly a genius who crafted the blueprints for the future of the league, and who's coaching tree is the biggest ever.
Nobody on the roster concerns me in games like these. It's always Shanahan. Easily flustered and flummoxed, has never won a game down by a single score in 38 games.

Shockingly alarming statistic. He routinely gets unraveled at the slightest moments of adversity or confusion. He's a coaching autistic who needs a head coach. You can feel the energy and flailing confidence permeate through the whole team. He's a loser in key moments and needs someone to override.

this is the best roster I've seen since the 94 Niners. They should be beating everyone. I have no confidence he won't f**k this up because he's never proven otherwise.

I'm certain he probably will. You should be able to win 1 - 2 of those by just getting lucky.

This was supposed to be entertaining. Bad display of talent, wasted opportunities, and lack of preparation or adjustments.

Zero entertainment value today. Win the SB and everything is forgotten. Otherwise, another crappy year down the drain, what's new, same old crap year after year.

My advice to other 49er fans don't watch Sport talk shows this week and only listen to local sports talk radio.

The fanbase can speak out of its mouth at times. We want to say Purdy is elite and bring up all these crazy numbers and proclaim we've got the most talented group of skill players in the league but at the same time we armchair it when it doesn't work out and say we should've ran the ball more.

Purdy is elite. He made mistakes no doubt but Shanahan got outcoached. That's the difference. He runs cmc into the ground when he doesn't need to and when we do need to pound the ball, he doesn't call dick on the ground.

also remember Jordan mason? He refuses to play this dude even though he's proven himself time and time again.

Shanahan can script and call some plays but that's all he is; and it's pretty goddamn easy when you have all pros all over your offense. He's a phony. He needs a HC
Hamilton is a monstrous beast. 6'4 1/2" 220 lbs. Great speed. Long rangy arms and big hands. How many pass tip ups, break ups, knock downs, interceptions did he have? He completely changes the game out there.
