Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett will start in Week 17 against the 49ers.

Despite Sam Howell producing solid raw numbers this season, this move has been overdue. Head coach Ron Rivera said this is "not an indictment on Sam" and that it will "let him take a breath," but that reeks of "coach speak" to us. Brissett replaced Howell in Week 15 and completed 8-of-10 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns as the Commanders' launched a comeback attempted in a 28-20 loss to the Rams. Brissett then also replaced Howell in Week 16, completing 9-of-12 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders failed comeback attempt against the Jets. Having Brissett under center is likely good news for Terry McLaurin since the veteran quarterback as looked McLaurin's way more on deep balls in his time this season. However, given that the Commanders will face the 49ers in Week 17, it's hard to recommend starting any of their skill position players

I hope so. With Brisset starting, the Commanders will play better this week.

Jacoby starting for Washington. Suddenly that blowout looks like a hard fought game.

Brisset is a better down the field passer, but Howell could scramble and run and brought them back from being before.
Are people actually worried about Jacoby Brissett lighting up this defense?

As long as our offense doesn't look like absolute dogs**t again, we should be fine.

Brissett doesn't light up, but he does happen to have a historically good INT percent

he's actually tied for #1 in NFL history!
with Aaron Rodgers
lowest INT percent

Howell was on pace to pass for over 4000 yards. Surprised they changed. Riverboat Ron is probably done with them anyway.

Following the situation, it's not surprising. Howell was benched each of the last 2 games. When Howell was benched, Brissett came in, and the team started looking / playing better. Howell can do some good things, but he was also a sack / turnover machine, which wasn't conducive to winning. Matthew Berry a DC fan, was begging for Howell to keep playing, cuz he wants DC to lose for draft position.

Howell was playing damn well through the 1st half of the season. Commanders just refuse to run the ball and after 60 sacks and god knows how many hits he took, I am sure that s**t took a toll on him. Physically as well as mentally.

Thats fun, I have SF in this game, though interesting to note that Brissett has been good in relief this year, 8-10 for 124 and 2 td's vs LA, and 9-12 for 100 and 1 td vs NY. As always, this next game is the most important game of the season..... because it's the next one.
