Why couldn't he be?? It's not like he was sitting on the couch all year. He was a mid tier free agent signing for LAC who was having a decent season.

He should start next to Hargrave instead of Kinlaw. He's not bad at stuffing the run up the middle.

Forgot where I heard it mentioned, but Day has been in a two-gap (1.5 gap) scheme for most of his career, playing in Brandon Staley's (Fangio's) scheme where they are not an attacking 1 gap scheme. Although he played in Wade Philips' one gap scheme his rookie year, the rest of his years were with Staley. So now with the 49ers, he's back to a one gap scheme and it could take some time reinventing his technique.
