The whole narrative of "can we win from behind?"… I mean, Shanahan's record would indicate that we're not a come-from-behind team… It is what it is. Can't argue with that record.

But just a counter to that thought… If we're losing a game and are behind more than 8 points at the start of the fourth quarter, we must've really dropped the ball on offense AND defense in the first THREE quarters that we're behind two scores. It's an odd thing to criticize the team that we fail to mount a comeback in the fourth, even though we didn't do well in the first 75% of the game. Does it necessarily mean we're not a clutch team? No, I don't think so. I think it just means we're built on offense to have the benefit of a run game and play a balanced offensive attack. And we usually have a good defensive performance that they don't let the game get too out of hand.

Looking at our record since we completed the rebuild in 2019 and excluding the injury-riddled 2020, I'm seeing we have a number of wins decided by one score. We can certainly win close games: 4 in 2019, 5 in 2021 (and 2 games in the playoffs), 3 in 2022 (and 2 games in playoffs). This year's the weird year that we've won pretty handedly in every win this year.
After this loss to the Ravens, how confident are you guys that a rematch in the SB would go the other way around?

Very... We had 150 yards on offense in the first quarter alone. The ravens totalled 350 yards of offense and that's with spotting them 5 turnovers.

Brock will be more conservative and so will shanahan. The ravens had no answer for our run game.

Also the niners are a completely different team when rested vs being beat down after a long season.

Key players will get 3 weeks rest now that that number one seed is clinched along with 2 weeks between the nfc championship game and SB.

That game can be won by passing or running honestly. The niners can lose to any team if they don't show up but if they show up it should be a beat down like any other team...

I'm pretty confident. The 49ers offense moved the ball actually pretty well vs the Ravens, they were on pace for 500 yards of total offense in that game. Only problem is the Ravens got the bounce of the ball.

This. Bad football luck. Won't happen twice.
Thanks guys.

I didn't had the chance to watch the game and when I saw the score , I must say it was a little shocking and depressing....
I didn't bother to go read the comments or news articles about the game, as I usually take a L quite badly....
I would have expected that such an important game (for the 1st seed and as a "statement") against a team that could potentially be the AFC SB finalist, would have showed a different effort (4 ints by Purdy ws kind of really unexpected).

As you may very well know, the comments on forums or social media span from "it's all good, we will be alright, to let's fire KS..."
That's why I asked.

So, good to know that the # don't tell the whole story !
Go Niners !!

Agree and ill add that Ravens have to get past the Browns, who beat us and them, to get to the Superbowl. Steelers are hoping to get a break and make it into the playoffs, that's another team that has beat them this year. Point being its still a long road for Lamar to get to the AFC championship game. Historically Lamar hasn't gotten past the wildcard game, and Pudy's already made the NFC Championship game his rookie year.
My level of confidence for winning the SB definitely went down after losing to BAL. It would be only the second time Purdy is an underdog (Philly last year). But I have high confidence that we can win the divisional and conference games.

Reasons for concern, ordered:
  • Injuries to key players (Brock, CMC, Trent, Bosa)
  • Baltimore
  • Kyle Shanahan's nerve when games are close or were slightly behind
  • Purdy against elite defenses (SB-relevant v BAL or CLE)
  • Mahomes/Reid
I strongly believe it will be 9ers Ravens. Look we are a bad ass team but so are they with a QB that is incredibly gifted as a true run pass QB. And Harbaugh is smash mouth. He's old school and runs his teams as such in my opinion.

I love the 9ers so much but at this second in time I think they are the better team. That just means Kyle needs to really study that film and all out counter it. Wilks too. I think it could be a hell of a SB but I'm not sure I could handle a second SB loss to them.

Very exciting couple of weeks coming up.

Ravens/9ers...CMC can run in for the game winning TD and it will heal the scars of the last SB

odds are Shanny held some great stuff out of the playbook to boot. He probably is not showing a ton on the verge of the post season.

When I look at the fact we had 420 yds of offense and they had I think around 350. We are a better team just had some bad plays and bad play calling. If we can just focus and not make the errors we made it should be much different.

The Ravens have been taking sh**t after the game and that usually means they were as surprised as we were at the results of the game. We need Arik back and then start tacking better. We also need to be the bully and hit harder as harbaugh coached his team to be.

The team needs to watch Legends the Jerry Rice episode and pay attention to how the last Superbowl teams prepared. We have that level of talent and can win it all if we maintain that level of focus.

Here's to winning it all....
