I am interested in anyone who is worried about the NFC playoffs, explain to me who they are worried about and why. I am not interested in hot streaks or years past results. I want matchups and other things pertaining to head to heads.

I'm concerned with the rush defense and it's inability to get off the field on 3rd down. The defense consistently loses 1st down and allows the opposing offense to be "ahead of the chains" on both 2nd and 3rd downs. Too many 2nd and 4, 2nd and 3 type scenarios all year long. To go along with this is the trend of allowing teams to convert 3rd and longs (7+). Lastly, the inability to get to the quarterback with the amount of talent they supposedly have is alarming in my opinion.

3rd down is a legit concern. We are 24th in 3rd down conversion % allowed.

I wouldn't be as concerned with our run defense as over the last 2 seasons has shown it is night and day when Armstead is in and out of the lineup. Armstead is officially back at practice this week.

I would prefer to allow teams to have to dink and dunk down the field on us. Our defense has been one of the best in the league in allowing explosive plays. I am under the mindset that the more plays an offense has to run in order to score, the less often they will be able to score. We are 3rd in points per play allowed. We are also 2nd in the league just behind CLE in redzone opportunities allowed.

Our biggest issue in pass rush is when we face QB's like Stafford, Cousins and Burrow because they get rid of the ball so fast that it negates the pass rush. But you cannot cheat and play exclusively press man against them because they can also beat you deep. Which brings us back to my previous paragraph. I'd rather our defense to force an offense to be methodical rather than give up explosive game changing plays. Even if it does affect the pass rushes ability to get to the QB.

I picked Tampa because I believe that the home teams are going to win out all through the NFC playoffs. I can't see any road team going on the road this postseason and getting it done in these tight windows after 17 game football seasons. One would think the Rams could win but DET didn't win 12 games this year for nothing

Thats the ONLY team I can see winning on the road but I just seeing those teams going 3-0 in the NFC this weekend
add Hurts hurt finger and Aj Browns tweeked knee.. and Tampa has a real good shot

I just dont think the Eagles defense can stop Evans/Godwin with Baker playing solid this year which is why I'm taking them to win it at home. The only reason I see Eagles pulling out a win is with Goodell helping them to give us another 49ers vs Eagles game which would be great ratings.
TB only beat Carolina with 3 FGs. A game TB needed to win. CAR also put a pounding to Baker's already injured ribs.

Eagles defense is a lot better than CARs so who knows

Eagles defensive front maybe better but their secondary is ranked 2nd to last in yards allowed and is ranked last in 3rd down stops. Panthers are ranked 3rd in yards allowed through the air so I wouldn't say the Eagles defense is a lot better. Giants are 2nd to last in offensive passing while the Bucs are 17th and the Giants whooped the Eagles hard. With the way the Eagles have been playing I don't seem them winning unless they just magically flip the switch or Goodell intervening. It'll be interesting to watch though at the end of the day lol..

That is not true. Panthers have the 3rd ranked pass defense. The eagles have the 31st ranked pass defense.

Ummm, no. Carolina has a top 5 pass defense. Philly's D is straight trash.
my fault.. I meant Defensive front (not overall) who can put some hits to an already injured Mayfield

I wouldn't argue that Philly's pass defense is better in rankings... but Car isn't a team where you need to pass on

Bucs cannot run the ball very well. They haven't run the ball well in years. Which is why they struggled to generate offense against a top notch CAR pass defense. TB should have an easier time generating offense against PHI because the bucs strength is a huge weakness for the eagles.
should if bakers ribs are good

Baker's ribs are delicious.😃

I think its just time for you old heads to finally cut cable. $50 T-mobile home internet plus a handful of subscriptions is like half the price of cable. Cable sucks anyway. 700 channels of nothing to watch.

I checked out the subscription services and would need to subscribe to 5 different ones to get the channels I watch on Directv. I would also need to get their expanded services to get the premium channels which is even more money. After all that I still would't be able to be NBCSports Bat Area in Eugene which I love because I get Warriors and Giants games on that channel. Those streaming services aren't cheaper when you start adding the premium services and in my area they aren't as reliable .

I am reading how streaming will become "cable" soon enough with high pricing and baked in commercials regardless

That's how it always works. More content equals more money. The chance to make more money will always win out and the fans will get the short end. I know I sound like an old boomer because that's what I am. It was better when we could turn on the TV and watch the games without subscribing to several different services. NFL+ lets you watch on a table or phone but I'm not into squinting to watch a tiny picture. When Niner games are blacked out in my area I just watch NFL network which shows all the scoring plays and some of the big ones as well. I can live without watching all the 3 yard handoffs, punts and incomplete passes as well as the replays that take forever.

I don't have cable. Total waste of money. I got NFL+ and that's good for me, plus other streaming and Vegas has the best sports screens ever, i.e. Circa..that place is amazing. You can swim around the pools or kick it on reclining lawn chairs while watching on the biggest screen I have ever seen. I was turned off by NBC for something that I won't go into I guess lol. They will never get any of my money lol. If it wasn't Peacock, I would be open to forking over 5.99 for whatever football.

It's an experiment and a precursor for the money grubbing NFL to go full pay for view for playoff games. Worse will be when they spread it out between 3 or 4 different services.

It's $5.99, I don't see this as anything more serious than moving Monday Night Football exclusively to ESPN (ABC has carried it due to writers strike but before it was exclusively ESPN). I'll pay less than the price of a pint to watch it clearly or I'll pirate the game 🏴‍☠️

I actually have peacock and it's not a bad service. I bought the black Friday deal where it was $20 for a year. Lol

It actually gets some decent movies quickly out of theaters too. $20 for the year is solid.

Yeah and I like a lot of the shows. It has the office too. I don't understand the hate for it. I've never worried about watching games cause there are always streams to get l.
Anyone else feel "meh" for the playoffs? I feel like I've become numb from all the past playoff/Super Bowl disappointment. I want to be excited but I'm not expecting much.

All good points but there is a flip side to the argument(s). Struggling to get off the field on 3rd down and allowing long drives by the offense keeps the ball out of the hands of your dominating offense. We've gotten away with this throughout the season in part because we haven't faced murderer's row in terms of good offenses with good QBs and also because our offense has been extremely efficient. We did see some struggles in this regard with the Rans in week 2, and with the Vikes and Bengals (probably the 3 best QB's playing from the pocket we've faced).

Our defense has thrived this year with multiple possession leads, and it has also helped to force teams out of the run game… which we haven't been great at defending. We've had multiple possession leads when the opposing team has touched the ball for the first time in the 2nd half in every win but two. We've been good at generating turnovers and the defense has been solid overall to assist in that regard… but the most important factor has been our efficiency on offense. It is shielding potential issues.
I now want the Rams to lose, not because I am scared of playing them, but because I want the 49ers game to be on Saturday next weekend so I can go. If the Rams win, and the Packers lose, it's unlikely the NFL will schedule the game on Saturday because of the rest disparity (though hasn't this recently happened?). Anyone have any hookup on tickets for sale?

Right, this is the first year in a long time that our offense has consistency bailed out the defense. I don't even think we've had any wins where it was a close game and we pulled it out. When a team, with a decent qb, has been able to keep the game manageable (one score game) - we've had a difficult time stopping them. Like Smokey said, especially long drives - I don't think we've even won any of them. Either we've blown teams out or have lost. Lol

IMO, we need our offense to be hot all playoffs or we are in trouble. If a game is close and we have to rely on our defense and special teams, we are in trouble.
