I for one, did not think we would crush the ravens. I thought it would be a close hard fought game that would end in a score of 27-24 with us coming out on top.
I am interested in anyone who is worried about the NFC playoffs, explain to me who they are worried about and why. I am not interested in hot streaks or years past results. I want matchups and other things pertaining to head to heads.
I'm concerned with the rush defense and it's inability to get off the field on 3rd down. The defense consistently loses 1st down and allows the opposing offense to be "ahead of the chains" on both 2nd and 3rd downs. Too many 2nd and 4, 2nd and 3 type scenarios all year long. To go along with this is the trend of allowing teams to convert 3rd and longs (7+). Lastly, the inability to get to the quarterback with the amount of talent they supposedly have is alarming in my opinion.
3rd down is a legit concern. We are 24th in 3rd down conversion % allowed.
I wouldn't be as concerned with our run defense as over the last 2 seasons has shown it is night and day when Armstead is in and out of the lineup. Armstead is officially back at practice this week.
I would prefer to allow teams to have to dink and dunk down the field on us. Our defense has been one of the best in the league in allowing explosive plays. I am under the mindset that the more plays an offense has to run in order to score, the less often they will be able to score. We are 3rd in points per play allowed. We are also 2nd in the league just behind CLE in redzone opportunities allowed.
Our biggest issue in pass rush is when we face QB's like Stafford, Cousins and Burrow because they get rid of the ball so fast that it negates the pass rush. But you cannot cheat and play exclusively press man against them because they can also beat you deep. Which brings us back to my previous paragraph. I'd rather our defense to force an offense to be methodical rather than give up explosive game changing plays. Even if it does affect the pass rushes ability to get to the QB.
