Should've been a primetime game 😤
It's becoming obvious that primetime and nationally televised games are determined more by how many fans a team has, rather than whether or not they're good. The Monday night game vs the Jets is a good example.
Scheduling formula-wise, IIRC there's a time zone reason why west coast teams are inordinately chosen for a lot of primetime games, in addition to the reason that the majority of NFL teams are weighted location-wise east of the Mississippi— this combination means there's always going to be a higher percentage of AFC/NFC East/North/South teams that are going to be paired for 1pm and 4pm games (ET) and correspondingly, a AFC/NFC West team in turn will have a greater chance of being left as an outlier that needs a game time slot and the only one left is a primetime game. How good that AFC/NFC West team does also factor in (especially back in the day when there were only SNF and MNF as the prime time games), but with all the extra prime time games and flex scheduling now, if your team is a West team and good, they will nearly always have 4-5+ prime time games regularly.
