Should the 49ers retain Steve Wilks?

I wouldn't fire him but if he leaves we'll be okay. I would try and hire Michigan's DC Jesse Minter. He's 40 years old and really bright. He was with the Ravens as DB coach before Jim Harbaugh hired him so he has an NFL background. I like the aggressive style that Michigan played. I'm sure Harbaugh will take him with him if he moves to the NFL.

I like this idea. New blood. The DB coach is a plus too

The defense has been great going back to when Saleh installed the system. It works but I have to admit I prefer a more aggressive approach. A little more blitzing for one thing. I feel that with the talent thus team has in the front 7 they are sometimes a little too passive.

He's the scapegoat for all frustrations, everyone knows it. Been obvious all season

Agree

Though, not all criticisms were wrong

Saleh and Ryans all got better in year two during their tenure. I see no reason why that trend wouldn't continue with Wilks.

Maybe because those 2 were first year coordinators, and Wilks isn't?

If we win the SB we should keep as many of our players and coaches.

its about the system Wilks ran a 3-4 system before he came here. Even then all our stats are the same except we have a few more sacks this year despite Bosa having a worse year compared to last year

Allowing 3 games above 24 points this year is amazing and in 1 of the games Arizona scored a TD with 45 seconds left to make it a 2 score game and the other we had 4 interceptions

acting like this was a bad year for the defense is (no offense) a stupid take

if we lose tomorrow cause of the defense fire him, if we win tomorrow I'll hold my opinion til next week.

wise choice
Like it or not, Wilks is the DC in 2024 IMO, he's being used as that token black/minority candidate to apply with the rooney rule, plus Wilks' defense is good, he needs another year to get them where they truly should be, #1, and Wilks can do it with this group, no major FAs except Chase Young, I'm leaning towards the 49ers letting him walk, grabbing a comp pick, or signing someone who's more experienced at EDGE.

I'm leaning towards this too, unless he goes on an unbelievable run.... but if even if he does that he will probably demand more than what we want to pay.
He should be gotten rid of at all costs. He is absolute garbage
Needs to f**king clean it up in the 2nd half.
Happy to see this guy go this offseason
I'm in a glass case of emotion posting
At this point I just dont want us to bring Ambry back if he's not on the bench.

Hes a solid backup corner. Lenoir is definitely better but he's forced to play slot.
