The game last night is what this team needed, no way they f**k this up against Detroit with the SB on the line at home. They will play much better especially with better weather

I don't believe that's the NFL Shield, that's the NFC logo.
I believe he's suggesting to paint it as pictured.

For me, it's not that our run defense sucks, it's that this Wide 9 scheme sucks against the run.
It may the way it's being used this year, but it worked the last few. I remember Harbaugh's first year here we played Philly when they used the wide 9. We ran it down their throats extremely well and the next season they moved away from it.
Why use it then? If we moved away from it, we wouldn't need expensive DE's?
Of course you would. Always want great DEs, whether that is the system or not. I think Wilks used it because that had been the system and his adjusting to that was easier than implementing a new one. But also think that's part of the problem. Maybe it's like Norv Turner trying to run a WCO.

Gore tore that defense up, I remember. The LB's have to - basically - run blitz to stop the runs off the wide 9. It's GREAT against the pass, I love the scheme against passing offenses. It's just bad alignment against a north-south ground game like the 49ers had back then with Gore. I don't think we'll ever be top run defense with the wide 9. Having said that, the DLine and linebackers would be top notch against the run in any other scheme, like a basic 4-3 IMO.
Wouldn't be easy to switch to a traditional 4-3?

It's a one gap system designed to get into the backfield and pressure the passer. That's what it's good at. Where, I think the expense lies, is those two gapping DT's that can at the same time gap penetrate. Example Armstead and Hargrave. These guys are so athletic they can play defensive end *and* DT at the same time. Yet still *Strong* enough to two gap, also they are athletic enough to play defensive end and rush the passer. These players cost a ton in cap space and draft capital. And that's (I think) one reason the Defensive backfield and the offensive line have been starved for talent and cap space since the beginning of the ShanaLynch era.

What sucks is we have nothing to show for it. Lol at least in the 90s we both were winning Super Bowls. Right now we are just beating you and then screwing up later on. It's depressing hahaha

The #Lions have lost 11 straight road playoff games. Their last victory away from home? It was against the #49ers. At Kezar Stadium. In 1957. https://t.co/cZOK4li4XT pic.twitter.com/oomBRulTLj

I look at it positively. Kyle's been up against some top notch coaches - Reid and Belichick. Going up against these guys and losing (barely - in a sense) helps Kyle grow as a coach. Since 2016 when he was a pass happy OC guru, he's gone to the ground and gotten bigger OLinemen and Bigger RB's (for example). I think that shows growth and development. Keep in mind Walsh didn't become a HC until 48, Kyle is still somewhere around 44 and has already two Superbowl appearances and possibly a 3rd coming up. Walsh was still a OC at Kyle's current age. Add in Purdy who's only 24, and the future looks very bright for this franchise, win or lose in the playoffs/Superbowl.

Man o man, that's up there with the Tom Brady helmet catch for me. That's *INSANE* accuracy for a QB. Generational I tell you. Folks that say Purdy is just another good QB, don't watch stuff like that, in my opinion. That's Joe Montana/Steve Young level accuracy.

It was an absolute beautiful throw but I'm going to be a Debbie downer as it all amounted to nothing. It's hard to really put much stock into it when we punted 3 plays later.

Can't wait to stomp the hell out of the lions and be firing on all cylinders going Into the dance so fans stop being such Debbie downers. Lol I hope we play KC and get revenge.

Let's all collectively pretend it occurred on the game winning drive.

I'm assuming you weren't around for the 1990 49ers vs Giants MNF game. It ended 7-3 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever.
