What's the story with DET's passing defense? I read they generate pressure on the QB but yet they aren't known as a good passing defense. Is it as simple as block up Hutchinson then pick apart their secondary?

They give up a lot of yards per attempt, but is it because they are leading in the game so they play soft zones and give up a bunch of underneath yards?

They were blitzing nickels and corners a lot yesterday. Tampa was horrible in picking those guys up. I think they even left Hutchinson unblocked twice.

Well craaaap, that sux.

He hasn't been bad on turf. Going back to last season he has completed 67.5% of his passes for 8.2 YPA with 4 TD passes and 3 INT's. 2 of those INT's came on the Monday night game against MIN. I am guessing the other INT was against CLE?

Thank you for the links 🍻

Brock hasn't played on turf much this year but when he has played on grass, he's been exponentially better than turf.

Out of curiosity, what's that based on? I don't see a ton of turf games this season, but I think most were strong games even if we weren't pass heavy.

I'm seeing LA, Minny, Arizona, Seattle, and I think Philly is a hybrid. Rams was his 2nd game back and I'm assuming Minnesota weighs down his numbers. And doesn't LV have a natural turf that's rolled in? So the question of grass vs. turf looks to be a moot point in regard to the playoff run, right?

Goff's stats at Levi's.

What's your opinion on the team & coaching around Goff now compared to when he was on the Rams and played us? Better, same, or worse?

I think he is the same QB. You stop the run and get pressure with 4, he'll crumble. You can see a trend in that chart. The better our defense has gotten over the years the weaker his performances have been against us. Atleast when he is playing us at Levi's anyway.

I agree with this part of your statement but I worry that it will be hard to do. This team hasn't been good at stopping the run in games where they aren't way ahead. Detroit has a good 1-2 punch in the backfield. I'm also not confident that the 49ers front 4 can get a lot of pressure on Goff. They have one of the best O lines in the league.

*had one of the best. Their center is super banged up and their RG (who is a stud) is out. THey're also going to be down their best run blocking TE. I think we will be fine.

It'll be up to the offense to put points on the board with tuddies and not fieldgoals.

turf games don't matter anyways cause if we win this sunday, the super bowl will be on bermuda grass.

Baker hasn't been good against the blitz all season. Brock eats blitzes for breakfast.

I just pulled up the stats from the espn under splits - grass vs turf. he's barely played on turf but he is like 2 td to 3 int - where on grass, hes like 29 touchdowns and 8 picks. a majority of our games were on grass this year.

Didn't know that. Thanks.
Detroit's defense isn't great. TB showed that yesterday. Their offense is explosive. I would like to see the Niners try and control the ball more with long drives that keep the Lions O off the field. That's what teams have been trying to do to the Niners recently. I have no problem with letting the backs rotate so they don't wear out CMC. If they can get back to splitting the runs and passes they are more effective.

Yeah, the raiders stadium has Bermuda Grass Field, fortunately!

Arizona is natural grass as well, that's wheeled out of the stadium during the week for sunlight and growth, then wheeled back indoors on gameday (subsequently copied by the Raiders). Smart for the desert stadiums.

Not sure why the 49ers didn't bring him in with Dwelley out.

Dumb. Lions lost their backup yesterday and didn't waste anytime.
Steve Wilks defense against the Detroit Lions offense who just put up 564 yds passing against a good bucs defense?? I have no faith in our defense against that offense. Wilks has shown me nothing except being consistently outcoached.
