Marty Ball vs Riverboat Ron style matchup
wish Kyle would get more aggressive, he literally has one of the top Os of all time supposedly, that means you want them on the field and you trust them to pick up 3rd downs and 4th downs.

I was told he was conservative cuz of Jimmy lol, remember that? what happened folks?

this bout to be a seriously epic dog fight

this lions team reminds me a lot of 2011 49ers, scrappy blue collar shirt workers

niners will have to really earn this one

I can understand it a bit for last game because it was raining and Purdy was off pretty much all night. Now if he does it again this time when it's gonna be 70 degrees outside and dry...

Not gonna lie I wish we matched against Tampa Bay instead of Detroit. Detroit match against us very well because they can run the ball and we cannot defend it. Any given Sunday but it will be one tough matchup.

I keep seeing this idea thrown around in this thread a lot. What quantitative proof do you have to back this up? The Lions need to be more concerned about their terrible pass defense than we do about our average to good run defense. Because if they can't stop our passing game, their run game will become obsolete.

This is a tough year for 49ers fans. All the excitement of potentially beating the Lions (assuming it doesn't rain!), is dampened by the fact that the NFC team is in for a thrashing in the SB by the AFC team.
Miracles happen, yeah, but then, they don't too.

Undefeated Patriots lost the SB
9-7 Giants beat the Patriots in the SB
10-6 Ravens knocked off the Manning Broncos, Patriots and 49ers in the same playoffs
Eagles with a backup QB made it all the way to the SB and beat the Patriots

You play the games for a reason.

Ok, all the above are anomalies. I think a very high probability of winning the SB lies with the AFC team. Is there a chance (however small) for any team to win any game, sure. Regardless of what we feel, the DLine needs to STEP UP! It's pitiful right now, collecting massive checks.

Shanny has to balance either grinding them down with the run off the bat and build play action off of that, or be more aggressive like he's been recently in passing more (and letting Brock work out of the shotgun) on early downs. The latter might have to be a necessity due to the Lions pass rush. Gotta get an early lead so the run can get established and their DL can get worn down.

Ideal scenario is Niners defer, Lions get opening kickoff and Goff throws a pick-6.
If you would of told me before the season started that we'd be playing the Lions in the NFC Championship, I would of taken that all day. I'm still taking that all day.

It's always something. The problem is when Kyle calls the game tight, and shows a vote of no confidence in the O to get it done, the players start to play tight. And the game gets tight.

This isn't the 80s and early 90s. Whoever gets to the Superbowl on both the NFC and AFC side will be really good and have a close to a 50/50 shot of winning it.

As a poster alluded to below, lets see what he does when it's not rainy and his QB is on.

I wish his DC was more aggressive with an elite unit. Thats the biggest issue. Funny how it's a different standard though.

we lost by 14 to BAL and were neg 5 on the TO differential. Imagine that being even on TOs.
I don't even know why some posters here even bother to watch. In the GDT it's awful...usually the same 3 posters or so..just doom and gloom 5 minutes into the game. Then in these threads...again the same people doom and gloom.

I get not being 100% confident all the time, but if you are so sure the 49ers are going to lose ...why even watch? It's like you want them to lose just so you can come back and say you were right.

It's exhausting.

Lol it's Asinine. Did anyone watch the bills last night? THEY can't defend the run. We just need to be more consistent.

He has 8 years' worth of archived film on how to rattle Goff, especially from his Rams days (also needs to study how Belichick handcuffed him in SB53). Wilks has no f**ken excuse to game plan ways to make Goff's life miserable next Sunday.

It's his philosophy. They asked him after the game and he seemed be more excited that GB didn't score versus the Niners scoring. He was playing for 3. He just doesn't have that let's put more points mentality. He'd rather just drain the clock.
