Boy, I just skimmed thru the first half game (recorded) before work and that was some of the most jr varsity tackling in the first half I've' seen since John and Kyle came over. Frigging thrilled we won but can we tighten up the tackling and defense in two weeks? I am begging in the SB we return to midseason form.

But holy crap we are in the SB.

Thats pretty much the national narrative.
Question,

On that awesome deep pass to Aiyuk... Was the DPI called off by refs or was it just declined since Aiyuk caught it?

They picked up the flag.

It was called off.

I don't think the NY comment really belongs, because Moody still missed a kick in this game that should be near-automatic and has two more playoffs misses in his career than Gould.

There were fans still in here this morning trashing this team after this huge win.

I didn't go back thru the earlier posts but is there a difference thrashing and constructive criticism? That was one of the most jacked first half playoff games I have seen in a while. Multiple missed passes they usually don't miss second half.

I don't think anyone is thrashing the team as boy what a season but it would be a false statement to say nothing is wrong the past five weeks.

They waived it off, no DPI.

Lots of moments can be pointed to as the turning point, but for me it was the 4th & 2 that DET failed to convert on. Up 14 points in the 3Q, DET drove into field goal range and passed on the opportunity to go up 17 with a makable field goal. WR drops the ball on the 4th down attempt and that's when the snowball rolling downhill started to pick up real momentum. Shout out to DET coach Dan Gamble. He probably hits on 18 at the blackjack table.

Side note to the actual game - I loved seeing ownership get Montana back into the fold. Him hugging Barry Sanders at the 50 was awesome stuff. Two all time greats.

I think its wise they brig in the old dynasty guys to be around todays team. I think its a positive thing.

Might have been teammates but the Lions GM was stupid.

Wayne Fontes, who was the Lions coach at the time, told Sanders in Amazon's new documentary on the superstar running back that Montana reached out about playing for the Lions ahead of the 1993 season. Montana was on his way out of San Francisco and apparently wanted to share a backfield with the future Hall of Famer.

"[Montana] called me and he said, 'I'd love to play with you and Barry Sanders,' Fontes said. "I nearly jumped off my desk."

While Fontes was elated with the news, the team's general manager at the time didn't share his coach's enthusiasm.

"I went and saw Chuck Schmidt and I said, 'We got a chance at Joe Montana,' Fontes recalled. "But Chuck Schmidt said, 'He's too old. He's over the hill. He's done, another year.' I went back to Joe and said, 'I'm sorry.'"

Incredible. That would have a been insane.

Kind of like when we turned down Brady after 2019.

I agree, though I did see somewhere that they've converted on 15 out of 20 4th and 3s or less this season and their kicker has missed a lot of kicks in the 40-50 yard range this season. I understand their decision, but I remember feeling surprised and relieved in the moment when they decided to go for it, especially when they dropped back to pass.

Personally all this fan policing is childish. People have emotions during the game, big deal.

Pointing out dumb takes is not policing. People come here to discuss the game, not parse through a bunch of toddlers smashing their keyboards. Don't wanna be called out for being a dumbass, then don't be a dumbass.

Discuss the game in the gameday thread ? Please explain what pearls of wisdom and nuances of the game you expect to derive from the gameday thread ? The expectation of the thread is no different than when you jump off your couch after a bad play and start cursing at your tv.
A lot of talk about Campbell going for it on 4th, but I'm more interested in the 4th down that he did NOT go for. End of the 1st half and it was 4th and goal, from the 3 I think? I wasn't confident our D would get the stop if he did go for the TD and believed that could be a backbreaker going into the locker room. Settled for the FG and I felt, if we could come out, score and get a stop, we had a chance. While I still think they should have kicked the FG to potentially go back up 17 in the 3rd, it's the end of the first half that wasn't in line with their philosophy.

I thought Hargrave slightly tipped that ball making the catch harder.

Agree though. After that turnover on downs, the game changed and the Lions fell apart. They got too cocky.
