🏆 SUPER BOWL LVIII PREGAME THREAD - SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS 🏆

Belichick was great because he always took away the opponents best player. Kelce can be had if you follow the blueprint of muddying it up and making him work to get off the line and knock him off his route. CMC is much tougher. Even if we by some miracle we hold him to 50 yards rushing he could still kill us in the passing game. Then we are left with the other receivers which are all superior to what we have. I believe the defense will focus on confusing Purdy and harassing him with pressure. The difference between Jones and many other D linemen is he will follow your weak link and abuse him. We will keep Williams occupied with our worst. I seriously doubt Jones will ever line up across from him. Often times he lines up next to Karlaftis and eats the double team and allows Karlaftis to pressure. You guys seemed to struggle against the Ravens and Browns, in a lot of ways our defense is better. If we win it will be because of our defense not in a shootout.

Our O line is actually one of the worst pass blocking groups in the league, I think we rank like 25th or something - which makes what brock has done pretty amazing. lol Detroit & GB did a great job of getting pressure up the middle of the O line - which I anticipate Jones will be great at.

I think your defenses weakness will be playing Man coverage against us, but we will see. you guys have athletic/'fast linebackers and awesome corners. I'm curious if we do more runs with brock and how you guys respond to it.

our defense has been extremely disappointing during the playoffs, like god awful bad. we had an incredible D in 2019, and still lost.

I'm really hoping our top ranked offense can do damage and put up points and long drives. in years past, we knew our defense was going to do its job and were worrieda bout the O - now it's the complete opposite.

I watched the Chiefs pretty much suck for the entire season and offense was sputtering and people saying Kelce was washed... then the last month theyre the best team in football all of a sudden. They have vulnerabilities of course but not as many as the 49ers have and the Chiefs have Mahomes to make up for a lot of that.

On paper and roster IMO we should be better. But they way we are playing at the end of the year and playoffs looks very vulnerable. We get in deep holes and try to come back. Earlier in the year we were blowing teams out. The 49ers hardly seem like they are peaking. In fact you can argue they are not playing their best football. Mahomes and the Chiefs struggled during the year. But you can never count out a Mahomes team in the Super Bowl. Who cares about the year? Mahomes in the Super Bowl is different.

Except for that whole Tampa Bay debacle.

I loved that Super Bowl, anyone else? one of the great moments in history

Was pulling for them honestly. You're allowed to win 3 rings before I hate you.

But the main reason was I didn't want to see Tom Brady win another. Cherry picking mf'er lol.

Yeah, he chose a super stacked team and they stayed very healthy throughout the year.

On his podcast, Travis Kelce said that those bucs were the best team he's ever faced.
The Kansas City Chiefs defensive co-ordinator is the best coach on either team. Spagnuolo's success as a defensive coordinator is not new. He is, after all, the same guy who designed the game plan the New York Giants used to humble Brady and the previously unbeaten Patriots in Super Bowl 42 to conclude the 2007 season. Brady was under constant pressure and sacked a season-high five times in that game, which he later called "one of my least favorite football memories."

And after all this talk it might be 44-38 who knows
No I am just a guy who loves football but more specifically I love the Niners.

I respect what Kansas City has done though, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

what Spagnuolo has done in Kansas City, this year in particular, might be his best work yet.

To say Spagnuolo inherited a defense that needed work is putting it nicely. The Chiefs ranked 24th in the 32-team league in points allowed in 2018, and were second-to-last in yards allowed. Kansas City also was going through a generational change, with players like Allen Bailey, Justin Houston and Steven Nelson giving way to Frank Clark, Derrick Nnadi and Charvarius Ward − who will see his old team in the Super Bowl.

In the five years since Spagnuolo arrived in Kansas City, the Chiefs have been in the top 10 in fewest points allowed all but one year.

I happen to be a big fan of TB12, as far as non 49ers go.
Carmen Policy is a great guy but the line is like 1 or 2 points so its a 50-50 bet almost.

this is gonna be a game for a life time... These coaches have a lot on their plate. Each play matters. Vision and shot calling. Probing for weaknesses and call the right bluffs. Turnovers are killing both these teams, everything can flip on a dime. Has Purdy improved his ability to read a defense? He avoids sacks but he threw an int last game. He has the cojones to run but will the defense stop mojons?

I liked him for the first 3. Pats fans are so obnoxious he gets hated by association.

I respect him though. And he's Bay Area guy too obviously.

Yeah, this game can honestly take many shapes. An all time great HC/QB/TE is always dangerous.

it isn't that I don't think we can beat you guys, I like our chances, it just makes me nervous that we could be up 28-0 and I'd still be nervous the chiefs would come back.

Niners O needs to play fast and early and our defense needs to get back into form and be respectable.
the Kansas City Chiefs defense is elite. they've had the best looking defense this post season.

What they did to the ravens is extremely, extremely impressive. you put that defense with the best player of this era on offense, you got a tough team to beat obviously.

Chiefs running game is pretty good. i would say that the 49ers should be able to crush it in the past, but they've sucked against the run all year. thank god the lions only ran 8 times in the 2nd half. the game is not going to be a joke. great players make great plays in the biggest games.

The Kansas City Cheifs secondary is no joke. 49ers are by far the better overall roster. run the ball. dont turn it over. they keep the turnovers down, there is no way the chiefs should be able to win this game. purdy starts throwing picks and they lose. no interceptions. one at most. and most importantly if Kyle Shanahan has a 2 score lead in the 4th, it is not the time to prove how brilliant he is by suddenly start throwing the ball. you run out the clock.
