🏆 SUPER BOWL LVIII PREGAME THREAD - SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS 🏆

Of course, as many Niners fans are wont to remind people, that wasn't the only time Bosa got held in the last Superbowl game.

Nick Bosa isn't just a talented edge rusher complaining for the sake of it; there is data to back this up. According to Pro Football Reference, Chiefs guard Trey Smith and tackle Jawaan Taylor were tied for the league lead in holding calls during the regular season, with seven. Tackle Donovan Smith is in a tie for third with five, and center Creed Humphrey was flagged four times for holding this past season. Only the Bears, who finished 7-10, have more than one lineman flagged for four or more holding penalties. Meanwhile, Trent Williams led the Niners with four holding calls in the regular season.

Unfortunately, this is the Super Bowl. If referees are known for swallowing their whistles in the postseason, Super Bowl whistles might as well be halfway through the digestive system during the big game. Who knows if these public reminders of what the Chiefs have done this season, and what has happened to Bosa throughout his career, will manifest into flags on Feb. 11, but it's at least more effective than complaining about it after the game is over.
When a boat (49ers) runs into a huge storm (Chiefs), and you do normal things, you'll sink.
Extra-ordinary things need to be done to keep it afloat.

Will be the 49ers defense be extraordinary? Warner said the defense has been lacking. Good that it has been acknowledged, that's the first key step.
The next important step is to make some serious changes, plan/scheme better and play like it's the last NFL game of your career.
Lets see, fingers crossed.
I like how fans complain about OL holding like their teams don't do the same s**t. You know how many times I've seen Trent hold and not get called for it lol.

I like this analogy. Yes I agree, Bosa alluded that their could be some wrinkles in his presser, but yeah, if they come out and rush 4 and just play zone usual, it's probably not for the best
The biggest difference between the 2 niner teams from the last Superbowl to now is obviously the QB. Purdy is mobile which gives him another dimension.

With that said, my biggest concern in this game is the defense for the Niners. We must get off to a fast start. They have not been playing good at all for the most part. Wilks vs Reid is brutal to me. Niners biggest weakness is stopping the run and screen passes. They used to be one of the best in those department. Will the Niners defence be ready for WAR in this game or not tackle like the first half v Detroit
.Remember how everyone said that the RB position was over rated… and that's why no one was getting paid the last couple years…? I think RBs should get a pay increase…. Seems like they matter when it comes down to it. CMC could be the difference maker.

When Kansas City blitz, Brock Purdy needs to do short quick passes to either CMC or Deebo and that is how you stop the blitz. Either of them could take any play to the house at any time.

I'm not claiming that both teams don't get away with it but obstensively Bosa is the best defensive player in the league, and it is kind of obvious that the only way he can be beaten is if there is some border line holding on every play.

Vinovich and his crew have consistently not called fouls on players manhandling Bosa when we play. I understand how frustrated Nick is.

Bosa has come out and said it now before the game to try and get into the Referees head before the game.

Also Kansas City are easily the most penalised team in football so they must be doing some holding and it is a tactic from Andy Reid down.

Vinovich and his crew can still get in the way, but at the end of the day, that's not a reason to lose a football game.

Bad execution, playcalling, and missed opportunities are. All three are why the 49ers lost last time, and hopefully, all three are a reason the Chiefs don't get their back-to-back title.

so now that the chiefs will be without umenihu, should we double team chris jones?
How much for two tickets to the SB?
Chiefs fans are really confident, a lot of them think the Niners will get blown out

I think it's more how they are graded to qualify for refereeing for the playoffs. You get docked in the regular season for making a wrong call, but you don't get really docked for *missing* a penalty call. At least that's how I understand the NFL referee grading system. So the best graded refs get to referee in the playoffs, and generally the less they make the calls the higher their grades are. Those are the kind of refs you get in the superbowls.

So yeah, they probably won't call holding on the KC OLinemen.

On offense, let anyone else beat you other than Chris Jones

On Defence, let anyone else beat you but Travis Kelce and Rasheen Rice.
