🏆 SUPER BOWL LVIII PREGAME THREAD - SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS 🏆

We can't count on Mahomes making a mistake. We can pressure him and sack him, but we can't be like "he's not as good this year" and expect him to miss throws or just have bad plays in isolation. What we can do is force his supporting cast into mistakes and take them out of the game. Jam Kelce hard at the LOS. Greenlaw needs to make his presence FELT. Play disciplined, sound run defense, don't allow Pacheco to have an impact, if anything try to force him to fumble. Play man coverage, Lenoir and Ward need to lock rice down. Do all of these things, and Mahomes may still make a lot of plays but we will limit the damage. Hold them to FGs, and getting them to punt would be almost as big as getting turnovers.

But above all, the best defense for us will be a ball control offense that dominates TOP and caps long drives with touchdowns. If there's ever a game I want Brock to be a game manager, this is the one. KC secondary and defense overall is very good. Just take what they give you, the flat and shortgame will be there for the taking. Lots of short passes and screens to CMC/Deebo/Kittle/Juice. Kyle needs to stay committed to running the ball even against stacked boxes. We can wear them down, just need to stay committed.

KC not having Tyreek Hill this time, that's what's got me believing and I feel like it's an underrated storyline when it comes to judging the two teams. I was ecstatic when he went to Miami.

I think that's a good point, and it's how KC has struggled a lot of the year. They don't have a lot of guys that demand extra attention out wide. We can cover these guys. If everyone is plastered in coverage, Mahomes will have some tough decisions to make. We may be able to take the ball off him, get home, or at least force some incompletions on key downs with coverage wins.
We will know very quickly how hard KC is scheming to stop the run. I expect a lot of man and blitzing so we should be ready to counter that appropriately.

In trying to simplify this as much as possible its: win the trenches, run and stop the run, then more specifically within that making sure Kelce, Chris Jones, and Mahommes running doesn't kill us.

It helps that he's not on the team anymore, but the Niners played the chiefs last year and they didn't have tyreek but the score was still 44-23 chiefs.

But who was our QB?

Doesn't matter if Mahomes puts up 44 points.

Yeah, the last SB is ancient history for me, it's last year's game that concerns me. They out-schemed on offense and defense. Hopefully they can't play that card twice, and Kyle adjusts.

Actually it does matter, because if the offense stalls when Purdy could've kept the drive alive, you give Mahomes more time to score.

TBH Mahomes pulling rabbits out his ass is his specialty. Just because his offense wasn't that great this year, doesn't mean squat. There's only one game that really counts and that's all that is needed if his offense decides to show. Also, Chiefs didn't have Tyreek last year and they still whooped the Niners. It's like the chiefs is Kyle's kryptonite.

I'm not saying he won't do it again….im saying look at the body of work this yr. Lowest TD%, highest INT%, lowest QB rating, lowest YPA of his career.

We weren't the same time last yr as this yr. They've gotten worse. We've gotten better overall.

How is Rice's adot?

No, I get that. I'm just trying to be cautiously optimistic about the game

And SF has two MVP candidates. A 1st team all-pro at TE, LBer and LT. A second team all-pro at WR. And a Deebo.
