🏆 SUPER BOWL LVIII PREGAME THREAD - SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS 🏆

This is a great video though admittedly I know nothing of this guy's track record. I genuinely hope he's right about "the Niners defensive coaching staff couldn't possibly be so stupid as to continue with the Wide 9 and play soft zone in the secondary."

But I think his best point was that the Chiefs played a terrible playoff team to start, the Dolphins. Then they played an overrated and decimated Bills team who didn't have much in the way of skill players. The Ravens' offense committed coaching malpractice in the AFC Championship while the Chiefs offense really only played a good quarter and a half. The added value that people are assigning the Chiefs may not be "real."

With the way the Packers handled the Cowboys, there's a possibility that they were just really good by the end of the season. Particularly when we're talking about a young team like that, they were healthy and they weren't the same team that started the season. It should also be noted that the Chiefs couldn't beat them this year.

As for the Lions, I feel pretty strongly that they have the best set of RBs, TE and WRs in the league outside of the Niners. Additionally, they were also young and healthy. Both the Packers and Lions also have excellent o-lines, far better than the Chiefs. In hindsight, the Lions in particular represented a bad matchup. Great against the run, effective on offense in all phases, though Goff was a weakness. The Lions also beat the Chiefs.

I think we're going to see a reversion to the 2019 playoff offense. Accordingly, I think we're going to see a lot of Charlie Woerner (an underrated blocking TE) and very few three WR sets.

The offense will get their points, but I worry about the defense getting some stops and adjusting.

Why is this field thing so freaking hard to solve? You have High Schools all over the country that have Field Turf. It's designed to hold up to monsoon rains. It doesn't matter how much rain or snow or sunshine or wind. They have drainage underneath built right in. Why can't you move the rest of the week practice there? It's the Super Bowl. This is absurd. Further they have Junior College's around that play football. Also with Field Turf. Must be some in the greater Las Vegas area. Why can't you move there?

Who the hell comes up with the idea to lay loose sod over Field Turf anyway. No dirt underneath to support it. 1 week prior to coming. I mean come on. That doesn't even make basic common sense.

Walkthrough on the swamp. You can work out in the gym and use the hot tubs and ice baths. Practice somewhere else more stable on Field Turf.

Yeah, I'm just hoping that we can get quality enough reps to where it doesn't affect us during the game.

You just move the full speed stuff to some place else. They probably got a high school down the street. Slow speed walk throughs are fine even in a swamp. Sometimes you just do a walkthrough to discuss a strategy or situation. Not everything is full speed. That's fine in the swamp. Your shoes get muddy. But they can clean and dry that.

We'll see what they do, if anything. I have helped lay sod in the past, so I also share your confusion as far as the decision to just lay it on top of field turf is concerned. It all seems very weird to me.

It's completely crazy. Steve Young said so.

Would it take 1 week to grow in? Because that's what they did. I understand they just put mostly sod down too. Not much foundation of dirt below it. Which also seems weird. Wouldn't you need some underlying dirt too?

That's very obviously the way to win this game.

He might as well have said to score more points
We need 35 points to win and we need to score 10 in the 4th.

Key to the entire game is getting off to a fast start, to allow our defense to play aggressively. Complimentary football.

And!!!! Both the Packers and Lions beat the Chiefs, people tebd to forget that. So they beat the Ravens in the playoffs big f**kin deal, the Ravens always choke in the playoffs with Lamar.

And I think both the Packers and Lions are better than the Bills and Dolphins. Dolphins were like 1-6 vs winning teams this season and that 1 win they should have lost. Not to mention going from sunny Miami to the freezing cold in KC. And people overrate the Bills so much.Half of their defense was on IR and their #1 WR was washed.

We will be the toughest matchup they face. If we play our A game we can win this game.

That's eerily familiar. "Hey Harris look, it's John Candy."

That made me think of that as well. I don't remember Joe doing impressions, but I'm sure both approaches are highly effective ways to break the tension during a game.

Agreed.

we give Shanahan a lot of grief, but it took Andy Reid 21 years to win a Superbowl as a head coach. 14 of those 21 years he was in the post-season - with a very good record. lost his own superbowl. it wasn't until he found the greatest QB on the planet that he finally started winning Superbowl's. Kyle's in his 7th year and he's in his 2rd Superbowl as a HC- he's well ahead of Andy's pace already...

Who is "we"? The overwhelming majority of 49ers fans love him.

There are a lot of 49ers fans who give Kyle grief for not winning a Superbowl.

Once the NFL slated Vinovich for this game, it means we will get zero penalties in the game. He was the same dirty ref who allowed KC to hold the entire Super Bowl that SF was dominating. I still remember the 3rd and 15 where every SF D lineman was being held so Mahomes could have 30 seconds to throw a 40 yard pass to a hill which changed the game and allowed KC to score.

I think most fans realize that so much has to go right to get to the Super Bowl, let alone win, and wouldn't put a loss completely on Kyle. There are so many variables to thing combined with maybe an element of luck that I don't know if you can assign credit or blame to any one person. If I remember right, the yes/no poll on the Kyle Shanahan thread is currently at a 79-21 split. It's most likely that 21% that very loud and hypocritical in times of adversity.
Can't emphasize enough, Baltimore was the best team in the NFL for basically the entire season. We saw the game against them, it was just a better team in all aspects.
Chiefs go into their home, without a real WR or bonafide RB, and then beat them.

Reality is harsh sometimes. Right now, need luck, some very good bounces, defense plays their best game of the season, and "any given Sunday".
Let's hope for the best.
im really glad that people are making the effort to ensure taylor swift makes to the super bowl on time to watch the chiefs lose

The Ravens are regular season Tigers and Playoff CHOKERS every single year.
