YEAR / JERSEY / STADIUM (CITY) / SURFACE / (RESULT)

1981 / Standard White / Dome (Detroit) / Turf / (Win)

1984 / Standard Red / Outdoor (Palo Alto) / Grass / (Win)

1988 / Standard Red / Outdoor (Miami) / Grass / (Win)

1989 / Standard White / Dome (New Orleans) / Turf / (Win)

1994 / Throwback Red / Outdoor (Miami) / Grass / (Win)

2012 / Standard Red / Dome (New Orleans) / Turf / (Loss)

2019 / Standard White / *Outdoor (Miami) / Grass / (Loss)

2023 / Standard White / Dome (Las Vegas) / **Grass / (TBD)

*Miami stadium was renovated in 2015-16 to be partially covered with an open-air canopy

**Las Vegas stadium surface is natural grass that is mechanically-rolled in from outdoors for NFL games; artificial turf is used for college/UNLV football games

yeah so it literally doesn't matter, lol

There had been a noticeable trend during the dynasty years of the Niners wearing in the Super Bowl:

- white jerseys, indoor stadium, artificial turf = WIN
- red jerseys, outdoor stadium, grass = WIN

Those who are superstitious will notice that in the two SB losses:
- Niners went away from the above "proven" trend in 2012 (as the "home" team could've chosen to wear white jerseys instead of red in the New Orleans turfed dome).
- They had no choice and had to follow what KC chose in 2019, so they wore white in Miami, which is now a partially-covered, though still natural grass stadium.

Coming up, Las Vegas is kind of another wild card, though again the choice has been taken out of the Niners' hands, due to the "home team" rotation designation being the AFC team's, and KC electing to wear their home red jerseys:

- Niners will wear white
- Las Vegas is a domed stadium
- The playing surface however is grass (turf is used for college games, but natural grass is rolled in for NFL games, similar to Arizona's stadium)

The gold pants with the red socks really pop with the white away jersey. White socks does nothing for that outfit. Maybe they need to ask Kristin J. She understands fashion. How do they not see it?

The NFL for whatever reason loosened up the rules regarding uniform hosiery in the past few years.

It used to be mandatory colored calf socks + white ankle sanitary socks/tape (paired mostly with light-colored pants) for both home and road uniform sets. If a team had a home or road set with dark pants, some teams paired them with white-colored socks to avoid a "unitard" look, but the strict rules about the length / 4:1 ratio between calf and ankle socks remained the same.

If you go back and watch Niners highlights pre-2019 or so, there was still the old NFL standard sock "pro" look.

Sometime around 2020/21 is when the rules were loosened to where now there's a bewildering mish-mash of mismatched socks, especially when a team is wearing their road uniforms.

For example, when the Niners are wearing their standard white jerseys, some players wear:

- full or ankle-length red calf socks
- some wear full or ankle-length white calf socks
- some wear or forego entirely the white sanitary ankle socks
- some wear "Underarmour"-type white undergarments that probably extend up the length of their leg

It's a bit more uniform (pun intended) when they go all-white 1994 throwback road set and mostly everyone wear a white-unitard look, but IMO that set as well would be improved if all the players went back to wearing red calf socks+white ankle socks.

The red socks look better home or away or throwback. Just really makes things pop on a 49ers uniform. If they can wear those they should. But I don't know what rules they are obligated to. I do know that the white socks at least do nothing for their look. It just doesn't pop that way. Looks so bland and plain.
Not this has to do with the actual game but I'm pissed the league doesn't have players wearing thier jerseys anymore for Media Day..now night. I think it's ridiculous making them ALL wear the same silly unattractive jumpsuits. I can't make out the players.i want to see the numbers. Maybe because I'm old, but gee whiz Goodell! This ALL MUST CONFORM BS" has got to go! Bring back the UNIS and some damn personality to Media Day!

Yeah sure...make fun of the guy who's right🙄
Bring back individual player intros as well.....running onto the field "as a team" is a dumb idea started by the Patriots

Individual player intros are way, way more iconic. The players will NEVER do it. Because they want to come out as a team. So you mandate it. For hype and marketing nothing ever was better than the player intros. It's awesome for the Super Bowl. The whole team running out there and announcing nothing does nothing for the hype. It's terrible.

Yeah this goofy concept was fun in the moment and set the tone for that game, which made it memorable and kind of ionic (due to Pat Summerall's voice).

But it has played its course. The player intros used to be a fun part of the viewing experience.

I also agree with the jerseys being worn on media day or opening night whatever they call it now.
