I would think this would only benefit a coach who is on an expiring contract. You are limiting the hiring pool and creating a disincentive for coaches to sign a multi-year contracts by forcing a promotion to also be a trade. Plus you would also limit the ability to trade that 3rd round pick in case you need to hire a coach. Bad idea all around.

The point is the 49ers have been grooming minorities that have been then hired by other clubs to a lotta previously off limits positions historically.

There is nothing wrong with the 49ers grooming folk and then the league rewards them for it. This doesn't take a pick away from another club but it does take a player off the board for another club

Even so as John Lynch said "they need to groom their own" and STFU! Stop hatin on me and mine!

Right. And Jed is basically telling them to go pound sand - we hire the best people period. And since they're taking them away from us, maybe they should get better at promoting them internally before that, too.

These other teams should get better at hiring them, developing them, having them in key positions, and apart of the real brain trust.

They could do it themselves instead of poaching our guys all the time. What I love about our organization is that this was happening before there was any draft pick incentive to do so.
