How do we fix this?

The team is at it's peak right now, that's the thing. This was the year to do it. Trent Williams is 35 and our line will be abysmal when he retires. Aiyuk is going to get a major pay raise. We have highly paid pro bowlers all over the offense, and that's not really sustainable in the NFL, and the offense is really what failed us in the end.
Extremely disappointed right now so the mind is not in a good vibe to say something constructive…
This post is more catharsis than anything else…

I'll say the first persons i'm really upset is the coaching staff and KS in particular.
We have a stacked team with one glaring weakness : our pass pro. Nothing new that he never really adressed the passed few years.
Despite that we had for the first time in history 4 guys going over 1000yds on offense with a 2nd year QB that played like Kurt Warner in his best year.
So KS can do the job but mostly vs a bunch of bad/average teams.
But when we face a good defensive team, we generally have no rythm on offense and his playcallling seems dubious : he tends to outsmart himself
We really only performed to our potential in only two great games : cowgirls and beagles, teams that choked… Our results vs AFC tells something…
That is on coaching.
Like the fact we start the 3QTR with 3 3and outs in the SB.
And we dont take advantage of two turnovers by the Chiefs and a mostly superb effort by our D that came well prepared… for that game.

And speaking of D… we have a regular problem with running QBs that is still not adressed to this day.
And having Wilks not mastering our D scheme showed all year : the production fell dramatically from last year.
And when all the chips are on the line we cannot deliver a crucial stop.

Than you have players that make the little or bigger mistakes to shoot yourself regularly in the foot. And against a solid team with a great QB it doesnt past the test.
The problem is that to win a SB we'll have to defeat one of those teams…
It's on the players themselves but also on coaching. That muffed punt is one of many example.

So how do we fix this ? I dont know… but i'm afraid KS will remain part of the problem for the long years in front of us. And our salary cap situation wont make it easier now.
Right now this team makes me think of the bills teams in the nineties : great players, great potential but we mess up and stubble before the finish line.
I'm not positive we'll win another SB in the coming years unless Purdy becomes a stud behind an upgraded OL but the way he played the last two month makes me wonder…
It's time for Kyle to step down. He can't win a Super Bowl. It's a pattern now.

It isn't sustainable as we're way over the cap for next season. So we'll need to make some hard choices. And it's gonna be even tougher when we pay Brock. Hawks went through it when they paid Wilson, which led to them having to shed a lot of the heart and soul of their defense.
The makeup of this team is gonna look a lot different in a few years, and not having any 1st round draft picks since Trey is gonna come back and haunt us

After tonight, I've come to realize that it truly doesn't matter how complete a team is. If the opponent has the much better QB, your chances diminish quickly.

This team needs a legit, no questions asked franchise QB.

Mahomes is a generational qb.

I like Purdy but after next year I don't think your rush to extend him. You think long and hard (pause) about other options and direction of this team as well as what his contract will imply.

If your the 49ers your margin for error is zero in playing Mahommes without a stud of your own. We had to drop 10 minimum on first 2 drives with them deferring. Kyle passed on Mahommes for egotistical reasons and is proving to be a failure

the NFL is all scripted and rigged. I learned that forur years ago and knew that tonight would be no different.. wake up people

Brock played ok in this game not great. The 49ers aren't going to win a sb in this era with this level qb play. Our D won't play better in a sb than that. The Chiefs should have hung 30 in their sleep with goofball Kyle calling 1 run in three drives to start the second half. WTF are you doing bro???? Your terribly out gunned at qb and yet go out and drop back to pass 38 times? 15 times empty backfield? Against the best secondary in football.????🤡He's coaching like he's the son of a famous NFL head coach who has no clue what he's doing on the sidelines.

Problem with that is changing the QB would not have changed either of those drives. CMC fumble and Williams' false start/holding penalties killed those drives, not Purdy.

RG and RT.

Agreed, though I actually think Burford will be good, just had too many mental farts. Mcivitz has to go.

Thought we played a great game, injuries definitely disrupted us. Thought Kyle called a great game, loved the decision to go for it on 4th in the the 4th quarter.

The new OT rules cost us, think it's obvious that you let them go first and try to match, you get clarity when to go on 4th down.

Next year resign Aiyuk, draft a RT and come back swinging. Still think we're comfortably the best team in the NFC
I know we just lost another Super Bowl & the sky is falling but HOLY COW, you guys need to take a step back & relax. This right here is by far the most logical post I've seen. Shanahan was fine. He called the right plays, the players just didn't make the plays. It happens. CMC can't fumble to open up the game, Greenlaw goes down on a freak accident running out onto the field, Moody needs to figure out how to be consistent, McCloud needs to get on the ball or be louder on his call to the players to clear out, etc. Honestly it took a ton of luck to get to the Super Bowl, our luck just ran out at the very end, it is what it is. I just keep telling myself that all these L's will make #6 that much sweeter some day.
Now Purdys the problem
First off, they need to start putting an emphasis on the offensive line. You can't keep putting out backup level players and expect them to hold up against guys like Chris Jones. Trent doesn't have much time left, Banks and Brendel are serviceable at best. The issue is the right side. Feliciano is a career backup for a reason, and Burford and McKivitz suck.

No matter how much this game changes, it's still won or lost in the trenches, and we've neglected the offensive line for way, way to long.
you 49er fans think you have it so bad.... at least you can Google "49er winning highlights" on YouTube, try being a bills fan
Kyle's play calling hurt us in the 3Q. Abandoning the run was a huge mistake. One we have seen him make repeatedly and something we all knew would happen. That being said, we all know they aren't going to move on from Kyle so other areas that need addressing:

Oline - Worst in the league at pass protection. Fix it.

Wilks - He can go. His soft ass scheme is terrible and was exploited all year.

Dline - Way too much money for way to little production. Chiefs don't have near the $ invested and Jones was in our back field all night. A couple of these guys can go.

Secondary - Our secondary is God awful. Thomas can walk he's terrible. Maybe they will be better under a different DC.

Skill positions - Some tough decisions to be made here. DBo is due almost $30 million next year. He has lost a step and was manned up all day yesterday. They did not fear DBo at all. Sadly he can go.

Other things to ponder - Greenlaw torn Achilles, he may never be the same. Don't know how much he will cost but may have to send him walking.

Warner - He has lost a step, Kelsey abused him whenever the Chiefs needed him too and was wide wide open on multiple important plays. Warner is a hall of famer but he is not what he was.

Sad thoughts. We are the Buffalo bills at this point. Good enough to get to the big game but not good enough to win it. Many of our current stars will end their careers without a ring if they stay here. Much like Patrick Willis and Frank Gore.

Current 49ers that will never get a ring in SF:

Kittle
McCaffrey
Warner
Greenlaw
Trent Williams
Kyle Shanahan

Some of these guys may want a ring sooner than later and may be willing to go somewhere else to get it.

The 49er legacy of being winners has been tarnished by years of compromise and more of that is coming unfortunately.

The Kaepernick curse is real.
I've never seen so many anti-Shanahan posts here. 9Moon must be feeling in some kind of heaven despite the SB loss knowing he's got so many on his side.

However, that's just pure emotion thinking. It's ok, feel like that, I won't attempt to change anyone's minds if they want him fired.

He won't be fired though.

It's funny, but with Harbaugh I felt like there was a very very glaring issue with the offense/QB that he seemed incapable of solving and likely doesn't get fixed easily. Him getting fired was probably premature but his inability to adapt bothered me a lot.

With Kyle, I think if anything he might have to take a long hard look at what it takes to win a championship. Maybe we analyze every single final defeat from say '21 onwards. We know we've got the horses to get back to a Super Bowl. So what will it take to win it? Why are we struggling in these big spots?

And OL really seems to be the thing. For as much as we could use run pluggers, and maybe a shut down corner would be nice, I'm not sure more defense is needed. On the biggest stage they f**king showed up like we thought they could. And I'm not sure 25% more defense wins this on its own.

A dominant OL (if we could somehow engineer/build it) could be the way to finally win a Super Bowl. Just like he's figured out how to acquire the best FB, HB, versatile TE, etc....maybe he will have to figure out with Lynch how to get a top 5 OL that can run and pass block at an elite level where Purdy and CMC can impose their will on every team.

Somehow build an OL that can do outside zone along with power, and give our boy time.

Let's face it, whatever you think of Purdy, it will be hard to do significantly better. It's best we ride with him and give him the tools.

And it's bothersome we had no answers for those f**king layered blitzes.

Yes, it has become very very apparently so.

Maybe the blessing in disguise for the Chiefs SB loss to the Bucs was being embarrassed so bad, they did whatever it took to fix it. It was so obvious what the problem was.

Not sure ShanaLynch wlil see it so clearly.

I think the way KC turns it on for a few games is how we can expect the defense to be. So maybe we bias the talent on this team to OL for a change, and maybe we'll have what it takes to be a champion.

This is what it must feel like to be '80s Cincinnati. The Collinsworth grudge is starting to become understandable...
