I'm 36 years old. I barely remember 94. All I've known since is losing in the NFCCG and now 3 SBs. This team has done nothing but disappoint me. Mooch era…Harbaugh era… now Shanahan era. Nothing but losing. What's the point? It messes with my mental health and makes me unproductive at work and I neglect other areas of my life during football season.
I don't know what it's like to be a winner. You older folks should appreciate your memories because some of us don't have those.
Yea, you probably should. We all should. We probably won't though. It's just a game.
Pretty much how I feel. It's just a game.
90s was the peak of the NFL. Perfect balance of offensive strategy vs. defensive strategy. Passing and running games were more balanced. Players could still hit the QB, but weren't launching themselves like fools like the early 2000s yet. Refs actually called playoff games with the same rules as regular season and held players accountable instead of just looking the other way.
Today's game is too dominated by backyard play. Teams overly rely on scramble drill and super athlete wizardry to overcome failures of strategy.
But I still watch because I came to love the game in my youth. I just don't let it ruin my life. It ultimately means very little. It's entertainment, and only one fan base in 32 gets to be happy at the end of the season. Those are long odds, and those odds are tilted towards a select few, really.
So, my answer is if it's affecting your health then maybe take a break, or consciously decide to lower your emotional investment. Maybe balance things out with other hobbies that you have more actual control over in their outcomes, too. Most of all, just remember another season is just a year away.
