Honest question: should I quit?

Being a fan of an up and coming team, and of the underdog with no expectations is easier than a team you expect to win that keeps failing. This playoff run was not enjoyable for me, just tension and stress, and the inevitible letdown I knew was coming.

I'm glad this season is over.

Pretty much everything I felt, it was more like try not to f**k this up this time, and somehow we f**k it up at the end… again …. And again , like you know it's coming now, after 3 times I have no faith anymore

Never let yourself be so emotionally invested in something beyond your control.

Nothing but losing. What's the point? It messes with my mental health and makes me unproductive at work and I neglect other areas of my life during football season.

I don't know what it's like to be a winner. You older folks should appreciate your memories because some of us don't have those.

Yea, you probably should. We all should. We probably won't though. It's just a game.

Pretty much how I feel. It's just a game.

90s was the peak of the NFL. Perfect balance of offensive strategy vs. defensive strategy. Passing and running games were more balanced. Players could still hit the QB, but weren't launching themselves like fools like the early 2000s yet. Refs actually called playoff games with the same rules as regular season and held players accountable instead of just looking the other way.

Today's game is too dominated by backyard play. Teams overly rely on scramble drill and super athlete wizardry to overcome failures of strategy.

But I still watch because I came to love the game in my youth. I just don't let it ruin my life. It ultimately means very little. It's entertainment, and only one fan base in 32 gets to be happy at the end of the season. Those are long odds, and those odds are tilted towards a select few, really.

So, my answer is if it's affecting your health then maybe take a break, or consciously decide to lower your emotional investment. Maybe balance things out with other hobbies that you have more actual control over in their outcomes, too. Most of all, just remember another season is just a year away.
the obnoxious media makes it harder for me more than the actual team.
Honestly, if we're not front runners next year I'll probably just catch up with the box score after the game.

There's a ton of stuff I barely have time for anymore and I've already eliminated quite a few things from my life.

School, hobbies, job, friends, kids and other family... I'm being pulled in so many directions and I have to make sure all those things get the best from me.

Being a football fan sucks.

This. Don't give others the keys to your own happiness

Don't listen to sports talk radio. I haven't in years and I'm able get over tough losses like this because I'm no longer feeding the disappointment day in day out listening to clowns with hot takes

This. I watch highlights from game wrap ups.

The last few weeks I didn't listen to ANYTHING and it was the least stressful time of the year.
Stay away from media for the next few days. The Sun will rise and our time will come.

If it's messing with your mental health step away from it. Some things are a lot more important than a game. That's one of them.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm 32 and loved this team since I was a kid. My parents would fight so much growing up, I always felt that football saved my life. Because it allowed me to release the pent up anger and escape from my problems.

That being said, I don't think it's healthy to let football dictate your emotions 24/7.

I really enjoy discussing football with all of you. But I need to work on myself more. Family is much more important to life than football. Stay strong and I'll try to do the same.
I posted this in the game day thread as well.

I'll be honest. I don't want to call it "giving up" on the 49ers but this loss does have me questioning my future devotion to the game in general. It is just an absolute gut punch to lose in this manner. I'd rather lose by 14 or whatever in regulation and say we just got beat. I'm not the oracle but damn I saw this coming like a bad dream after not putting them away early. It sucks watching the game and knowing what's probably going to end up happening. My wife actually said the smartest thing tonight which was "do you even have fun watching this? It seems miserable for you." She couldn't be more right.

There are mistakes and blame to go around for everyone. McCaffrey fumbling on the opening drive while we were marching down the field was a killer. Purdy missed Aiyuk WIDE open for a long TD early in the game. This wasn't exactly Shanahan's best play calling clinic. Then add on Luted Jr. and Ray Ray gifting the Chiefs 7 points on the special teams turnover. Failing to convert 3rd and 5 after the two minute warning. I could go on and on.

It took all of those mistakes above for Mahomes to win this game and dammit it happened. He didn't play well at all for 80% or more of that game. He committed highway robbery tonight on national TV and we sat right there and let him do it.
IDK. I witnessed SB niner Wins with my dad when he was alive. Now that he's gone, it feels almost weird when niners are about to win one.

Niners should've won 2-4 Super Bowls by now tho. Kyle gonna Kyle vs Andy Reid. Moody and Mccloud should be super bowl MVPs but I digress. Don't get me started.

Yeah Football is just a game. There are kids in Africa homeless with no parents. Other countries families with no water. Haiti got their president blasted in the face.

IF IT'S ANY TYPE of lenity.. Niners are favored to come back to the super bowl next year.
I'm not that upset at this loss because I expected Shanahan to screw it up. And I don't buy that we were better tonight. Both defenses were good enough imo. And both offenses made mistakes. But we couldn't capitalize. They did when it mattered.

I'll still be a fan. But I refuse to get upset over a loss I saw coming a mile away. We all did.
