It was a cherry on top for them to win in 2012 and 2014. If the Giants NEVER win another championship in my lifetime I will be ok with it.

But what does it have to do with improving your life other than vicarious feelings of joy?

I was a huge Suns fan for about 30 years. Felt gutted when Jordan took us out in 93. Loved Barkley. But then ai went through the heartbreak 15 years ago when the Suns had Amari, Nash, etc but just couldn't overcome San Antonio. Squandered an opportunity over and over until the Lakers just took over the division and Nash retired without a ring. Just gave up on basketball. When they lost a couple years to the Bucks in the final, just said oh well and went to sleep. I was ok with that.

Gonna do the same with this team.

I'll be honest. I don't want to call it "giving up" on the 49ers but this loss does have me questioning my future devotion to the game in general. It is just an absolute gut punch to lose in this manner. I'd rather lose by 14 or whatever in regulation and say we just got beat. I'm not the oracle but damn I saw this coming like a bad dream after not putting them away early. It sucks watching the game and knowing what's probably going to end up happening. My wife actually said the smartest thing tonight which was "do you even have fun watching this? It seems miserable for you." She couldn't be more right.

There are mistakes and blame to go around for everyone. McCaffrey fumbling on the opening drive while we were marching down the field was a killer. Purdy missed Aiyuk WIDE open for a long TD early in the game. This wasn't exactly Shanahan's best play calling clinic. Then add on Luted Jr. and Ray Ray gifting the Chiefs 7 points on the special teams turnover. Failing to convert 3rd and 5 after the two minute warning. I could go on and on.

It took all of those mistakes above for Mahomes to win this game and dammit it happened. He didn't play well at all for 80% or more of that game. He committed highway robbery tonight on national TV and we sat right there and let him do it.
That sounds an awful lot like me,I tend to watch these games angry anymore and as much as I wanted them to win I really couldn't wait for it to be over partially because Romo had me wishing I was deaf, but mostly because it was stressing me out,I gave it up for a year & half or so after the last SB loss other than glancing at box scores and the occasional highlight video and I was perfectly happy without it unfortunately I allowed myself to be sucked back in.

If the 49ers winning a SB doesn't make you feel better than why are you even a fan?

At the end of the day this is just a sport. We have no real stake in the wins/losses. It doesn't directly affect any of our lives.

But we as a community choose to support a specific team and we are fully invested in their outcomes. Why? I don't know. That's what makes sports what they are - we can't explain our pride/loyalty to our teams but it's there and it's strong.

But on that note, tonight is when it ends for me. I am no longer fully invested.

Stop being a flipping baby. Its just a game. You had no part in the game itself except for sitting on the sidelines being a fan. If you get that wrapped up in it all then yea you need to stop.

I've been a fan since i was 6 and am 40 now. Been through all the ups and downs. Sucks to lose. Sucks to lose to the damn kid who gave up his soul for the rings but he did and here we are.

The players put all the blood sweat and tears into this. Sounds like yours is just the tears part. Be a fan. Don't be a fan but i love the niners regardless. Hell of a season just ended again on s bad note.

Could be worse. How many of these other teams didn't even sniff the playoffs.

OK.

Nothing but losing. What's the point? It messes with my mental health and makes me unproductive at work and I neglect other areas of my life during football season.

I don't know what it's like to be a winner. You older folks should appreciate your memories because some of us don't have those.

I'm 60. I'll never quit. The first five Super Bowl victories were awesome.

You don't quit. You just do your best to get over the losses, roll with the punches and move on.

I'm a fan because I find it entertaining. I get joy when they win just like I do when I watch a great film or listen to good music.

No entertainment dominates my life.

No offense but sounds like a lot of you are just fair weather fans. Don't take it as an insult, but if after a loss like this you can go to bed with a smile and say you enjoyed a good game, then you're probably not on the same plane as some other fans.

With that said, I think guys like Leatha and myself agree with your philosophy. I think I will transition into a fair weather fan, just focusing on box scores and highlights. It did wonders for me when I quit watching the NBA, although I took that to the extreme and quit watching altogether. But not worth the time, energy, and investment to watch a team let you down.

Take a step back and realize you are saying you can't be invested because they don't win championships. That is the quintessential definition of a fair weather fan.
SBAFB

Being a fair weather fan is the way to be. My motto is when the 49ers win. We win. When the 49ers lose. They lose. I'm not taking the L. They did because I didn't bet on the game nor did I pay for $8K Super Bowl tickets

Now I'll go to a few regular season games buts that's about it.

I watch these games and root on my team purely for reasons of smack talk with other fans and entertainment. I don't bet on games because if I had then I would have lost last night. As it stands they lost not me
I feel the same way. I'm tired inside.
Been a fan ever since young2owens in the 98 packers playoff game ironically, and that was when I was 8 years old ( will be 34) If you've been a fan since then, why quit now? We are on the cusp of our dynasty, and this has been the closest we've been to getting a super bowl win. I'd understand if we were still in the mike nolan/ that period after Jeff Garcia left phase, but were so close. Try to not give up, and go niners!

Anyone questioning this was a s**tty fan anyways, yes you should all quit!
