Did I miss the tweet that said Wilks was fired or he quit?

That's ok. It's not like he comes alone. He brings a staff with him. Give him the year to implement his defense. Then promote on of his guys to DC once he leaves for a head coaching gig.
Why wouldn't he just take that staff with him to his HC gig?
Can't promote everyone to DC. Somebody from dline to cornerbacks to LBs coach will be available…

Bill is arguably the best head coach in NFL history. Can't imagine he'd be remotely interested.

I laughed at this a month ago, but who knows now.
I'm shocked that Bill didn't get a HC job and basically it's over now unless a surprise firing happening.
Reports are that Bill is still asking for full control and that's what is turning teams off.
There's no salary cap for coaches, we need to at least try for it and give him a blank check

Just fire Kyle and give Bill the keys.

He might do it for a ring and no other team outside of KC gives him that. Unless you think he would rather want to sit on his rear and watch football on TV next year.

Besides the fact he'd never take the job, the 49ers also couldn't just fire Wilks and hire Bill. They would have to interview two minority candidates first, and could be hard setting that up if it was obvious what we were doing.

When the offensive coach has to over ride your defensive calls, which in essence means you don't know how to call the right defense in certain situations, I just can't imagine him returning next year.
Now Belichick is a SB winning head coach. And the chances of him downgrading himself to a coordinator position are slim to none. But remember this is the guy that trades us Jimmy for pennies so there is some connection there. He doesn't have a job for the next year. Why not push for him hard to bring his coaching staff here for a year or two or until he gets his HC gig. Then once he leaves we can promote one of his guys to DC and now we have a great coaching unit in place for years.
Maybe just because he's free he might just agree so he has something to do next year. And we know Kyle and Lynch are aggressive with these matters.
What say you ?
I think Wilks called a solid game in the Owl, but yeah I'm all over this and they have a good relationship. It makes a ton of sense provided he's willing to take a step down, which is a big if.
if he's down, do it, tomorrow.

Exactly. The only reason this is even a thought is because (A) he's jobless for at least another season and it really depends what opportunities are available next year (B) he has a chance to win another ring outside of NE ala Tom Brady and he would get a lot of credit for it, and (C) he has nothing better to do — he doesn't have the personality to work as an analyst, so at least this will be a "break" from full fledged duties until something better comes up.
We know Kyle and Lynch are aggressive in these matters. Hell we just found out a couple weeks ago they were trying to coax Brady out of retirement bc they were unsure of Brock's status. We know Kyle has tried to get Stafford and Rodgers. So these type of home run moves are not unprecedented.
So although this thought was laughable a month ago, a jobless GOAT sitting at home might just want to add another ring to his collection. And he has a monster defense to work with.
Comeon Bill. Join the team !
I'm with you dude!
